  1. Thanks, I use these where possible but the inability to rotate these objects in other than X or Y rotation. you cannot slope the slab items. I might look at the framing tools as a lot of my extrudes are used in the creation of a pergola or timber exposed beams, But then again if I need to shape the end like in the image attached?? well we will see.
  2. In this attached image i set the clip cube to section though my house and then created a viewport and when I ticked the Display Planar Objects and Project Screen Objects on the VP pallet i got this rendered image cut through the windows. Need to see why its a bit blurry but I have not been able to get a result like this before. Its a start. HTH
  3. Ok, Thanks maybe they need a bit of a make over as i think they have been like this since ... well I think VW2008. Regards
  4. Funny I type in "Circular Windows" and I get 8 results. Add quotes just like in Google to be specific. No offence meant but GIGO.
  5. Hi, You can still extrude along path see attached. Look at the elevation of your wall and draw a polyline along your stepped wall. Extrude along path,if the baseboard ends up flat edit profile and rotate the profile. while in edit profile mode select all and zoom object and hit 1 on keypad to see in isometric, easier to see what's going on. You can also use extract surface to create your rails etc. If you are just after steps in wall you can create a wall style with the steps in. See attached. HTH
  6. Hi, Am using a table and chair from the Tool set and to apply material to each component I can only see the 4 options to apply materials by class, Table Top, leg, Chair seat & leg. Without creating separate classes for each of these is there a way to add materials without exploding the oobject?? Thanks
  7. Hi, Have you looked at the window in 3d? what i see on the image often occurs when the window is not actually in the wall. In the window dialogue box does it give you an option to flip the window? if it does its in the wall, then you may have 2 walls on top of each other. HTH
  8. Ok, I saw the DXF and you need something like this which i created using nurbs lines and extruded along path. I only created one side and mirrored the rest. With the tapering tower you could create the section and if you knew the proportion of the reduction you can scale the symbol down and copy it up with the scaled symbol each time. HTH
  9. Hi, Maybe similar but I created one section (Make symbol) of the tower and use copy move by points (100 or as needed) Very quick. HTH
  10. Hi If you go to this post you can see how I set up line weights to get nice even render in hidden line and what I usually enhance in the annotation layer. By having all light line weights (Except a few specific ones) I can control the end result better in the viewport. See the images attached to the following post. 11. Hi, Many ways to do this one option is to simply draw the wall as an extruded rectangle then using the push pull tool draw your wall steps (projections or recesses) on the face of the wall then simply pull the highlighted rectangles out or push them in. Also creating wall recesses under the AEC tool.(file:///C:/Program%20Files/Vectorworks2015/VWHelp/HTML5/VW2015_Guide/Walls/Creating_Wall_Recesses.htm?rhsearch=wall%20recesses&rhsyns=%20) Draw a rectangle and extrude ,to a desired height, then the next one to different height and so on is another way. 12. Jonathon, Thanks, that's amazing! the placement of the cutting plane and what's displayed above and below the cutting plane and the various ways you can display it and all controlled in the viewport if you adjust the settings of your class there. I was going to rant about the inability to create a simple presentation drawing from a full 3D model without tracing over some aspects but it almost always comes down to an ignorance of the program. My Dad always said if you say it can't be done you are not thinking hard enough. Thanks I am sure there will be more aspects with similar problems of generating a 2D drawing from a full 3D model but I am keen to show that it is possible without costing the office huge amounts of Fee time.
  13. Hi, Yes it seems that the style always has a set starting point, but I am sure that this Pat Stanford would love to create a script that could equalize the line distance and the gap distance so whatever the line length is the ends are symetrical. Go Pat.
  14. 15. Hi, Drawing a pergola in 3d and I want to now show this dotted over in the floor plane. Is there a way to do this with out copying to lines and ending up with 2 lost of items that I have to deal with. Be good to be able to draw the pergola in 3d and have the ability to show dotted over. Any ideas. Thanks
  16. Kevin, Thanks for that, I had forgotten about the column object in the toolsets, works great for that. Hybrid symbol is possibly the way to go that way if they change in materials etc, as they invariably do I can change them all at once. thanks again.
  17. Hi, I set up my plan and draw my elevations around it and use the Icon rotate plan to switch between the 4 views, then i have viewports of each to my sheet layer. If you don't have this command you can create a exref of the plan and place them under a line, rotate and then you can project up. I do this method when doing internal elevations. The eref is always updated. HTH
  18. Thanks, So they still get the all the classes when you send them the file just the Viewport reference sets what they see. This is ok but we were trying to avoid emailing a large file to them. Guess we need to use a Drop box program and that way its the Consultants responsibility to update their files. Less work for us rather than emailing to all the consultants.
  19. You could use select similar tool to show all the object on that class and you can also modify the selection in the options dialogue box. HTH
  20. Hi, Maybe a dumb question but when I want to show the fill of an extruded object in top plan mode. I draw a rectangle and fill all ok as soon as I extrude the fill disappears. Don't want to use Open GL just Top plan because I am doing a black and white drawing. Drawing a series of pergola posts so I extruded the 150 Sq post. All is ok if I use a wall for my columns, But ???? is there a way??? Regards
  21. Hi, Small issue need to place a height envelop over a sloping site which also has a cross fall with the middle up and down also. Creating the side ones is easy and the centre can be done by creating a series if poles down the site and sending then to surface and lofting them. The issue comes with the intersection of the top and sides of the recession plane that has a 45 degrees slope after 3M of vertical and the site has a height plane of 8.5m. Is there a way to clip/join the surfaces so you see one envelope?
  22. Yes nice thinking, you can also use revolve with rail from the 3D powerpack in VW
  23. I want your version of Vectorworks "20014" I only have 2015. Back to the future.
  24. Thanks. The Consultant uses Vectorworks which should make it easy, but you cant export design layers as I understand only open a black drawing and import them in which is fine but the invisible classes come over as well. We don't want to give them the whole drawing as they tend to only want the base plan and it would be good to be able to export or save as with the invisible classes and layer not exported. Can save a drawing and delete all the unwanted but I am looking for an quicker and simpler option.
  25. HI, What is the best way to share a drawing with a consultants (Say Electrical) where you want to give them a base plan which will change over time. Also we have a class called Electrical which we can give separately. So far I have opened a blank document and imported the design layer into a new document but don't have the option to exclude the invisible classes, I get all the Classes. Thanks in advance.
