  1. The only time I've ever seen a similar message is when I've renamed the file I was working on in the finder (probably not very smart of me) or moved the file to a different folder while the file was open.. Then Save As instead of Save saved me from myself. Is it possible that it is looking for the folder to save the file in on a network that the computer isn't seeing? hth michaelk
  2. Set Part to Left. In the next pulldown, pick a texture. (default is None or Class) Set Part to Right. In the next pulldown, pick a texture. That should do it. hth michaelk
  3. Anybody else seeing this: The grid lines, which I always have turned off, turn themselves on. I haven't been able to pinpoint it, but it seems to be when I'm editing the wall cut out of a symbol. They will suddenly appear after zooming in the edit space. I check the preferences and show grid is selected. Deselecting works until the next time I edit a wall cut out. Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks michaelk
  4. Is there an imported or referenced pdf in the file that is crashing? michaelk
  5. I had the same problem right after 2010 came out. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=26943&Number=130679#Post130679 The fix is contacting Juan. He sent me a new application w/ the bug fixed. I thought SP1 would have fixed it. But maybe not. hth michaelk
  6. Sounds like you are drawing the beam, not turning on the light. Draw Beam is in the lighting instrument's OIP. The easiest way to get the instrument to turn on is through the Visualization Palette, Light Tab. If you have more than one instrument in the drawing, make sure the instrument w/ the gobo has something in the Channel field and/or Purpose field. That will make it easier to find in the list of instruments. From the Vis Palette, turn on the light and then render the drawing in Final Quality Renderworks (or Custom Renderworks w/ shadows turned on.) Make sure Draw Beam is off. (The nurbs curves of the edges of the field and beam angles actually block the light.) hth michaelk
  7. Nicely done, Mike! To see the database header row (Row 2), click the little triangle and choose "Database Headers" You only need "paste criteria" (and paste function) when you are building the worksheet. "recalculate" is all you need to update the worksheet. hth michaelk
  8. Can you post a file with 5 of the objects you want to count? michaelk
  9. Once the worksheet is placed in the drawing, select the worksheet, and in the attributes palette change the line attribute from solid to none. hth michaelk
  10. If all you are trying to do is count objects you don't need a database. In a worksheet cell type = then click the little triangle on the upper left side and choose "paste function", select COUNT. Click the little triangle again and choose "paste criteria". Set up the criteria for what you are trying to count. For example, this will count all the metric screw and nut objects in the None class: =COUNT(((INOBJECT & (PON='Screw and Nut (Metric)') & (C='None')))) If you do need to create a database, I highly recommend getting Pat Stanford's vectorscript that will return a worksheet listing all possible records and fields of a selected object. It's available in the vectorscript sharing section of this forum. It saves a lot of time, frustration and tears when creating worksheets. hth michaelk
  11. Select the 2D selection tool (keyboard shortcut is X) Pick the second mode. (Use the U key to cycle through the modes) Pick the one that looks like a double ended diagonal arrow. See the picture from the last post. hth michaelk
  12. Make sure the 2D selection tool is using Single Object Interactive Scaling mode. hth michaelk
  13. Do you have "Show other objects while in editing modes" and "Grey other objects" checked in preferences? michaelk
  14. I agree, Bruce. And I would add lofts to the list. Whenever those 3 objects are used you have to plan your workflow around being able to recreate them from scratch when it's time to edit. michaelk
  15. Yep, it's a bug. Just heard back from NNA, they duplicated the problem. michaelk
  16. Interesting. I just tried it. My machine changed your color to 15,11,33,0. michaelk
  17. Hi Peter I also suspect it's a bug. I will just use it as a symbol for now. But it would be nice to have it behave like a window. I'll attach an example. If nobody finds an a d'oh! mistake on my part, I'll submit. thanks michaelk
  18. I must be missing something... I've created a simple symbol for a custom round window containing 3 items: 1. a 3D round frame. Extrusion is deeper than the wall. 2. a 3D round 3D poly w/ a stained glass texture. 3. a round 3D extrusion (in the 3D Wall Hole Component space) When this symbol is inserted into a wall it behaves as expected. When this symbol is used as a window symbol [Window Preferences > Select "Use Symbol Geometry" > select symbol] the window is then inserted but it looks like a regular default single hung sash. It seems to have "forgotten" that it was supposed to use the symbol. If I go to settings for that window and remind it to use the symbol, then the window appears, but still with the default rectangular wall cutout. No combination of settings I've found can correct the wall cutout. It also doesn't remember the "use symbol geometry" preference setting the next time the window tool is used. When this symbol is inserted as a door [Door Preferences > Select "Use Symbol Geometry" > select symbol] it behaves as expected. What's different about the window tool that I'm not seeing? Thanks michaelk
  19. Thanks for looking at this. I tried using tangent arcs for the side curves on the path, but that still isn't working for me... Any more hints on how you did it? michaelk
  20. whoops... Idiot-itis strikes again. I replied to the wrong thread. michaelk
  21. Hmmmm That link didn't seem to work. Maybe this one will: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=27036&Number=131230#Post131230 michaelk
  22. Select "Draw 3D Only" in the OIP for the truss. It will allow it to rotate on any axis. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=3156&filename=curve%20truss%20@%20angle.png hth michaelk
  23. Thanks, Peter. That's what I ended up doing. Just wondered if I was missing something obvious. michaelk
  24. Can a floor object be sloped? Can the edges be plumb? thanks in advance michaelk
  25. Jack Not clear if your positions themselves won't change names or if you are inserting instruments and the instruments won't associate with the position you want them to... I'm guessing it's the latter. That's been a common thread around here. Assuming you have two positions that are very close together - closer than the length of an instrument - or two positions that are stacked, like a ladder... I'm positive that other people will have better solutions, but these are two solutions that have worked for me in the past. 1. Put the positions on different layers (or classes). Be careful about having them both visible at once. It will all work out in the SLVP. OR 2. Move one of the positions far enough away to avoid the grabbiness and put it on it's own layer. DLVP it into its correct location. Like I said, neither work around is ideal, but they aren't horrible. And I'm confident someone will have a better idea. hth michaelk
