  1. I'm seeing the same problem. The position of the accessory symbols seems to be very dependent on the relationship of the instrument relative to the focus point. It is very difficult to select the accessory. Once the accessory is selected, dragging it to the correct position has no effect. It doesn't move. Changing the height of the instrument makes the accessory move relative to the instrument. - it seems to be following it's 3D position. After adding a focus point or moving a focus point the instrument will follow the focus point in 3D, but the accessory needs to be refreshed in order to "track". Kevin - any hints on how to handle this? mk
  2. Very cool that you've been making your own! There are two "stock" record formats. See attached. You can easily attach the standard record formats to your custom symbols and you're good to go. I don't often use Lightwright, but I think it probably matters. Instead of letting Spotlight generate paperwork, you can easily make your own paperwork reports/worksheets. It makes working on the plot MUCH easier. Good luck! mk
  3. I almost never turn unified view off. One exception is when using DLVPs on other layers in other views to show alternate views of the current layer live while drawing. But that's hardly an everyday occurrence : ) mk
  4. Hi Jeff Your observations are correct. To select an object on another layer certain conditions have to exist: 1. Layer Option set to "Show/Snap Others" or "Show/Snap/Modify Others" 2. All layers in question have to be the same scale. 3. All layers in question have to be in the same view. Unified View assures that condition 3 exists. great to have you back mk
  5. That will work. You can also roll your own. It gives you more control over the fields and report schedules... Example attached. mk
  6. VW2011 will automatically number tables. Any vintage will allow you to attach a record format with any data you desire and display it with the symbol. Unfortunately, you cannot use the LLM with anything but Spotlight instruments. hth mk
  7. That could be your problem. 12.5 isn't supported on 10.6 and gets flaky...
  8. Regrettably, you can't get a symbol into a worksheet field. There was a recent discussion about this here: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=28913&Number=141419#Post141419 hth mk

  10. I would think so. I'm assuming that NV did not intend for the report generated by Tools>Reports>Create Report...>blah blah blah to return such a nonsense number for total net and gross areas. The "11_" before the field name must have something to do with getting the worksheet to add the area units after the number.(?) But that makes the field entry not be a real number or a dimension. So it can't be added. I always find those VW generated schedules/reports/worksheets to be useful as guides to making one's own, but not as useful out of the box. I vote "bug." Report it. mk
  11. The split tool does a funny thing with polylines. The edge that gets split isn't "closed". After doing the split by line, click on the "closed" box in the OIP. Then you can split the remaining polylines again. So the step-by-step is: 1. Draw the overall polyline. 2. Split by line. 3. With both polylines still selected, click on the "Closed" box in the OIP. 4. Go to step 2. hth
  12. It's another of the 101 uses for Pat's script http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=108487#Post108487 mk
  13. In the database header for column B it probably says something like ='Space'.'11_Area' Change that to ='Space'.'Area' or ='Space'.'Gross Area' Perhaps Pat knows what 11_ means... hth mk
  14. I've always wondered why dash styles weren't treated like resources. There's probably a "real" way to do this, but this will work: Open a blank document that has all the dash styles you expect. Draw a line or rectangle or whatever using one of the dash styles. Copy it. Go to the document missing the dash style. Paste. Rinse & Repeat hth mk
  15. Is this what you are trying to do:? 1. double click on the viewport tab in the navigation palette 2. Click the visibilities button in the top right 3. In the left column select all or a range of viewports 4. Set the layer and class visibilities for those viewports 5. Click OK It's not a "set viewport visibilities to current visibility state" command, but it does fix all the viewports you want in one procedure....
  16. That is annoying. But different from the problem I was having. In my drawing the text boxes extended to the ends of the universe. Does changing the justification move the text all the way to one side of the text box?
  17. Horst I've seen this issue before. Turned out to be a font issue. Changing the font of the text box seemed to help. At least temporarily. hth mk
  18. Teresa The first time you turn on lit fig in in a light object from the Vis Palette, VW creates a Render Background called Background-1 (or-x if you already have a -1) You can edit the fog attributes from the Resource Browser by editing the fog render background. There seems to be fewer options for lit fog in 2011 than in 2010. See attachments. It's important to set the distance falloff for lights with lit fog to be something other than "none". hth mk
  19. Great idea, Cris. Much simpler. The accessory method has one advantage: It allows for different color gels in the gel frames. I've used it for "cheating" on presentation renderings. But it's pretty useless for anything else. btw, has anyone figured out the new rules for how accessories know where to live relative to their instrument in the new 2011-3D-aim-the-instrument-at-the-focus-point feature? The new stock accessories seem to be built laying face down. Do they insert along the centerline of the body of the instrument? (or along the vector between the 3D locus and the FP? - is that always the same thing? - do they insert normal to the vector?) Does this mean I have to go back and rebuild all my old accessories? mk
  20. Preferences > Display Tab > Display Light Objects > Never or Only in Wireframe hth mk
  21. I've done the render trick in the past by creating an accessory that is essentially a gel frame. Then you can give the "gel" or lens a constant (or in 2011 a glow) reflectivity. (make sure it's set to not cast shadows!) hth mk
  22. Press and hold the key above the tab key. (back quote key? - the one with the tilda) hth mk
  23. You should be able to use the 3D reshape tool. If you have Architect you can also use the "Fit walls to roof" command. Put the deck on a different layer and run the command with "constrain bottom of walls to 3D geometry" checked and the layer selected. hth mk
  24. 1. Create a viewport on a sheet layer. Just get it on a sheet layer. Don't worry about the view yet. 2. Now worry about the view. When you create the VP it will go to the sheet layer. Select the viewport if it's not selected. In the OIP set the layer and class visibility and view and rendering mode that you want. Update. 3. Duplicate the viewport. Change the view. Update. 4. Repeat step 3 until you have all the views you want. hth mk
