  1. They don't follow the position angle. You have to add the 12? angle to the instrument and adjust the height. Sounds like a good wish list item
  2. Do the instruments have a 12? angle or the lighting position? If the position has an angle then you have to manually compensate for the different heights along the position. mk

  4. What version do you have and what OS?
  5. No need to decompose or copy the contents. When you create the symbol, under other options check "Convert to Group" If the symbol is 1 object it will insert as a just that object. If the symbol is 2 or more objects, it will insert as a group. Or just insert the regular symbol and hit Command-K (on a Mac) [Modify > Convert > Convert to Group] and you will get the same thing. hth mk
  6. Check to see if your Option key is stuck. (Might be the Alt key on a Windows machine.) Or perhaps you might have a bluetooth keyboard turned on in your briefcase with the option key being pressed. hth mk

  9. I thought it used to do that, too. But I might just be slowly going crazy. I remember that previous versions used to create the Section Attribute class the first time a section VP was created. .... or I think I remember that happening... But somewhere around version 2009 that changed or I did something really stupid to my default settings and it stopped happening. Either way, it's nice to be able to create your own section attribute class - or multiple section attribute classes.
  10. Good point. I've never tried that command. In the English version the command is called Reset All Plug-ins. I've always worried that "reset" means that it would change the values to some default value.
  11. Turns out you don't have to resize the space object. You just have to get it to refresh. This also works. 1. Change=('Space'.'Area') to =('Space'.'Gross Area') 2. Select the space area object(s). 3. Shift-right arrow, Shift-left arrow (or Shift-command-arrow) [moves the objects and moves them back and forces a refresh] 4. Recalculate the worksheet. hth mk
  12. Attached is probably what you're looking for... Create a new class (I called it Section Attributes) Set the class attributes. Select "Use at Creation" Select the VP. In the OIP > Advanced Properties > Attributes Tab > Attribute Class 'Section Attributes' Still in the VP OIP > Class > make Section Attributes visible. hth mk
  13. Here it is... For this file I started with your file and did the following steps: 1. Changed =('Space'.'Area') to =('Space'.'Gross Area') 2. Inserted a 2D locus on one side of the space object (as a place holder) 3. Resized the space object 4. Recalculated the worksheet 5. Resized the space object back to it's original size. 6. Deleted the 2D locus 7. Recalculated the worksheet Space object label is 37.5 Worksheet cell is 37.50 hth mk
  14. Interesting... Use 'Space'.'Gross Area'. Value in worksheet is 37 sq m Change the format of the cell to dimension area (this step may not matter) Resize the space object. Recalculate the worksheet. On my machine the worksheet is exactly equal to the space object label. hmmmm mk
  15. If I understand your question, yes, you can reference classes from other files. Navigation Palette, Classes Tab > New > Select "Import Classes" Click "Choose" > Navigate to source file for classes > select which classes to import > OK hth mk

  18. Fred I'm seeing the same thing. 2010 symbols are correct in 2D, incorrect (in the usual, 2010 way) in 3D. Has anyone submitted this as a bug yet?
  19. Yes, accessories become linked to their host instruments. They will move with the instrument. It also allows VW to count gobo holders if that's something you want to do. To get your desired workflow, I think you could use User Field 1...6. Map it to a field in LW. Enter a T or leave it blank, or just a space. Put the user field in the LLM. I find it much easier (and a smoother workflow) to enter the data in a worksheet inside VW rather than export and import. For example,the VW worksheets allow you to look at an instrument in the hook up, click on it, and the drawing zooms to that instrument. (Great for finding instruments that are accidentally "stacked" or not attached to their position, on an unexpected layer, etc.) What you type into the worksheet shows up on the label legend live in the drawing as you are typing. It's not perfect - There are things about the worksheets that drive me crazy, but I find it preferable to exporting and importing. hth mk
  20. You can still put a gobo in the instrument's record and it will export to LW. The stock accessory 2D part is just a "T" with a circle. You can rename them. In the Resource Browser > Symbol Folders > Label Legend Folders you will see all the Label Legends. Right click on one of them and choose rename. hth mk
  21. One way is to place a gobo holder accessory on the instrument and exclude the gobo 1 field from the LL.
  22. Totally disagree. Sounds like a recipe for a messy plot. In the OIP of on instrument, click on the "Set 3D Orientation" button (at the bottom of the OIP). 2 new fields will appear to set the rotation for that instrument around the x and y axes. (Also works in 2009.) Yep. Still a problem. You can just click on the truss to select it, but when drawing a marquee around it you either have to draw a really big marquee or use the option-click-drag marquee trick. hth mk
  23. It's important to know if you are using 2011 or something older... But the basic idea is this: Start with a blank document.... From a stock library import the following: Default Instrument Texture, Light Record Info, Light Record Info M, Parts, and the 3D C-clamp. Create the 2D and 3D portions of the instrument. Give all the 3D portions the Default Instrument Texture. If you are using 2011: ......1. Make sure all the geometry in the 2D part is on the screen plane. ......2. Give all the 3D geometry the Default Instrument Texture. ......3. Use groups or solid additions to make sure there are only 4 objects in the 3D part of the symbol: _______1. Clamp _______2. Yolk _______3. Body _______4. 3D Locus If you are not using 2011, feel free to have as many objects in the 3D part as you wish. (just found out yesterday: 2011 does NOT like NURBS curves or 3D polygons in the 3D part of a spotlight instrument symbol - stick with regular 3D geometry) The center of the clamp should be at 0,0,0. The 3D locus should be in the center of the body. (When rendering the light will originate at the 3D locus). In 2011 make sure the instrument is pointed straight down. In all other vintages you can tilt the body to whatever angle you like. In 2011 attach the record format "Parts" to the clamp, yolk, and body in the 3D part of the symbol. Select the clamp, click the data tab on the OIP and change the Clamp field to True. Repeat for yolk and clamp. For other vintages of VW skip this step. Go to the 2D part of the Symbol. Deselect everything. Attach the Light Info Record. In the Data tab of the OIP enter all the info. Exit the symbol. Good luck! mk
