I have models created in Sketchup that I want to include in my Lumion file. Do I have to save my files a specific way to be able to explode imported models and adjust textures? I have had success doing so with some models but others have pieces that will not allow me to select textures.

Hi, I use VW but two of my colleagues will be modelling in Sketchup. Are there any tips on workflow? Ie guidelines on how to best export and import? In the past I have found models I've imported in VW from SU to be very fragmented and need a lot of cleaning up. The person I'm working for will model in Sketchup and then ask me to import the model into VW to produce working drawings He'll also want to make changes to the model (in VW) and then also texture and light for rough renders. Then pass the model back into SU Is this possible? or better to just transfer it once from SU to VW. Any tips on how I can save hours remodelling / fixing up the model so it is editable in VW? much thanks, Helen

As of recent I am unable to import any downloaded SketchUp files into Vectorworks 2020 or 2022. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a client who has done their entire scenic design in Sketchup. I don't have Sketchup, but can preview it using the web based Sketchup GUI - so I know it's a "working" file. Every time I try to import into Vectorworks, I get the error saying that it is "Either damaged or created by an unsupported SketchUp Version." A little google told me that you need to "save the file as a 2019 file" in Sketchup first. Is this still broken as of 2021? Come on, guys!!!

I have imported a Crittal door Sketchup model from the Sketchup warehouse. It is having dimensions 3883mm X 2400 mm. I need to change its dimensions to 3000mm x 2200mm. However I am unable to edit the dimensions in Vectorworks. I tried the scale option, but the model needs to be scaled in X as well as Y directions and it does not seem to work well. The Sketchup model is attached with this post. I tried editing the model in Sketchup, but I am not very familiar with Sketchup and it seems that the model is not editable. Is there a quick suggestion to make this work. thanks Neelambari Crittal+doors.skp

Why can't you import SketchUp 2018 files in VW2019? SketchUp has had 2018 out for long enough that this should have been included.

I've got over 60 different SketchUp models I need to import and due to resource conflicts, I have learned that it is best to import them all into one file, all at once. That said, the SketchUp import only processes one file at a time, needing the user to accept each import manually. It's at the pace of about one import every 2 minutes or so. I was wondering if there was a way to script this import process so that Vectorworks would just use and import the same settings for all the files, without the need to have a user accept each import every 2 minutes for 2 hours of time? Any help or suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Hi all, I've used Vectorworks for many years, but only to do 2D work (plans, sections, construction drawings etc.) and am pretty confident at it (at least the bits that I use!). I would like to start using it for 3D. At the moment I use SketchUp to create a model, then Photoshop for post-processing. I would probably stick to Photoshop for some work, but make use of much better rendering within VW. I am hoping that there are people in the same position as me who have some advice, tips and resources to share, as I pretty much plan to teach myself, and would like this to be in as efficient a way as possible. Are there things you always wished you knew? Have you found any amazing blog posts or tutorials? Are there libraries of textures or objects that you'd recommend? All advice would be appreciated - I have a good project to learn on, and excited to get started! Thanks! Fi

scheduled 2017 SP2: Unable to import any Sketchup 2017 drwaings
Marconi posted a question in Known Issues
Hi, Having issues importing sketchup files into vw 2017 SP2. I've attempted importing files from sketchup 2015 through 2017 to no avail. I'm aware of the existing issue with importing Sketchup2017 files into VW2017, but from everything I've read downsaving should do the the trick. However, I keep getting the same error message over and over telling me that my file is corrupt or from an unrecognized version of sketchup regardless of if I've saved downsaved it. This is across multiple files as well. The original file I was trying to convert was about 64MB so I tried creating a little test file from scratch and had the same problems. Perhaps this in an issue with any drawing originating from Sketchup 2017? Thoughts? -
Hi all, 3dwarehouse is a goto spot for lots of symbols. I'm able to import great 3D Meshes - but I want to create flat 2D versions for hybrid symbols. I try all the "convert" commands - but nothing is quick. Does anyone have a good workflow for this? Thanks! Ethan
