  1. A good video database would be really usefull to help explain the more complicated solutions needed to successfully carry out operations when you are told "This operation can not be computed!" For example "subtract solids". I discovered today that subtracting from a "Sweep" IS possible if the sweep profile extends to the centre of rotation/sweep instead of using for example a 2D line as the anchor. Bug Progress list also would be a nice pointer in the right direction.
  2. Great suggestion Kevin, there are numerous ways of reaching the required results, but a dedicated tool would save a lot of work to get there. I really would prefer NV to get the 3D tools it already has in it's arsenal to work completely and correctly but hey, it never hurts to ask!
  3. Andrew, also check that you set your OpenGL settings to Max and Resolution in the Document Preferences i think was suggested to set to 300 in both dialogues instead of 72. The OpenGL part usually solves all issues.
  4. Markus, if you have speed problems think about getting an SSD and boot from that. As you don't say which v. MacPro you run(mines the 2010-5.1) or your budget, i don't know what is available for yours, but the difference is remarkable on most fronts. i doubt it'll solve all needs, but it does get you very much closer under Lion. Can't believe how much slower it seems when i have to restart from an HD running SnowLeopard. Can't vouch for RW but C4D manages well on the SSD.
  5. Surely in these circumstances, one uses "Look at Working Plane" (which i still have trouble getting to work since the "Planes" Enigma arrived) and this can be reached from a normal 3D view anyway as this is why the various elevation views were realised in the first place, the fact that you can work3D objects in any view is just a bonus of a 3D App. Problem is, despite claims with the new planes iteration, the connections between the two are very limited. Objects and Views continue to change . . . . . . for me anyway.
  6. Exactly! Something that has been pointed out on this Forum time and again Definitely! Simplify so one tool does what you expect, completely, not 3 or 4 doing the same job and those that do remain to do the job perfectly without complaining "i can't manage that request!" Me too! Clear out the Kr*p, Streamline it and rebuild without it "tripping over it's own bootlaces". Just try to keep it recognisable as the VW we know and "Love to Hate".
  7. That's right Chris and i don't need any of that Archie spec, but having used the OIP for so long, poor as the VW iteration is, now i find i can't proceed at half the speed without it. AND Thanx to RJMullin for taking the trouble to make Reshaper which gives choice of using the missing parts from the OIP Puzzle . . . . . .
  8. Kevin, i downloaded the Beta trial yesterday but i'm struggling to get it to accept my registration. As it's a Beta there are a few rough edges and not being able to register means a few niggles, i can't check any of the 3 training vids that come with it, But, it's quick, a little more intuitive in many aspects than VW, and even not having a clue as to what all the tools do, the 3D modelling tools all seem to do what it says on the tin, once you start testing them. And do it Successfully! Including several EAP type offerings that all seem to work as you'd expect. You can Push/Pull to your hearts content . . . . AND . . . . . dictate the size by entering dims on the fly. Lofts, Sweeps, Extrudes, Adds/Subtracts and any choice of 3D Solids get good results with no complaints that "The Object you are attempting to create can not be computed"! Impressive! One gripe is that it's own version of the OIP that displays Coordinates, BB Dimensions and Rotation is only visible with certain tools which rather defeats the object of it being there at all. And without a functional OIP it looses most of the "Stars" i gains for all the good points it deserves for what is does do very well. i'm also intending to try out a few other options like SpaceClaim, ViaCAD, Shark and a few others, so once i have been able see how that all fair, i'll post my views.
  9. From what you are saying it would seem that there have been some changes made to the EAP in 2012 as previously even if one created a path along the Y Axis when you attempted to edit it the Path would have been rotated vertically to the Z Axis and planted at 0,0,0, ! Not much use if Editing the shape depends on how it relates to other objects in the drawing! Could well be a valid idea if drawing the new path you need outside the EAP and Pasting the new Path into a Copy of the EAP doesn't work for you.
  10. Great suggestions Benson. i REALLY like the idea of a "Toggle/Temp Alternative Insertion Point Gesture" that could become part of a secondary option for Copy&Paste. Great idea "B"!! And in the RB Menu could have a "Temp IP" Command added with an Option to Keep it for that drawing or revert after placing, if you are Importing the Symbol from another File. Keep 'em coming Benson. Hhhhmmmm! VEXtorworks??? Andrew
  11. Has anything NEW on this "User Defined 3D Insertion Point" front "Magically" appeared in the latest iteration of everyones favourite "Nightmare" CAD Tool scenario? i've bitten the bullet and jumped into working under the auspices of Lion installed on an SSD and i have to say, that when i can get passed the times it won't boot, hangs or freezes and wrestles with the Wacom Tablet drivers . . . . . . i now have an acceptably FAST workstation and despite all the usual problems VW throws back at me since first discovered, even VW has become almost a pleasure to work with(allowing for the usual few choice comments). That is if i ignore all the hangups i've had with it for years! Insertion points anyone?
  12. Sounds good Kevin. Now all we need is when you choose to Edit the Plane aspect of the EAP the present Path is indicated with say, "A Dot" marker then you should be able to move the Plane to a position that suits each individuals needs for that particular situation. Or . . . . . . . . . for want of a simpler explanation . . . . . FINE TUNING! Crazy, i know . . . .
  13. i.d just be happy if EAP actually worked as the name suggests! All too often it refuses to carry out simple tasks like so many other 3D modelling tools. But then i've moaned about this before . . . . . . . .
  14. i'm for this. RB thumbnails have been a longstanding "Gripe" of mine one way or another. Thanx for bringing it up again.
  15. Did you see Pat's first post on this thread Mikei? May or may not help you, but if it does . . . . . As for VW 2012 can't help i'm still struggling with 2011.
  16. RJMullin has been trying to show NV the error of their ways for years, but it would appear they have created a beast that not only Raymond has difficulties keeping fully trained. His "Reshaper" Plug is an eye opener.
  17. i think the problem is not so much the Parasolid Engine's ability to perform simple tasks, but NV's method of interpreting and implementing it's instructions in VW to the Ps Engine. i don't wish to knock VW either, but it would appear that full use of Parasolids has joined Multi Processors, Multi Threading and Large Banks of RAM that are some of the issues that may still be shivering out in the cold. Or is that just me . . . . . . ?
  18. Yep! Me Toooo! Agree that is . . . . . But then i've been moaning about VW dragging it's feet on this front for years. And sorry Kaare, but i still think that while a step in the right direction, the Push/Pull Tool is just too limited for it's own good in what it does or rather, "Doesn't".
  19. Obviously the credit belongs to Jershaun for the research and trouble taken to list them, but, like you said, it shouldn't be necessary to list them in the first place, they should already be part and parcel! No Question.
  20. Chris D, you hit the nail square on the head. All points that we should not have to be asking for, still, after 3 releases/updates . . . . . . Good list nevertheless Jershaun!
  21. You may find some of what you a looking for in Raymond Mullin's "Reshaper" Wonder Tool(my addition) sorts out many of the foibles that the OIP has been lacking since it's inception. It doesn't turn VW from a Model-T into a Subaru or a Rolls Royce, and it may lack some of what you are requsting, but, it does give you a MUCH better OIP than NV could ever have dreamed up. Try before you Buy let's you test it to destruction before you splash out, so you may be pleasantly surprised. Can't find the site now, but i'll post it when i do . . . . .
