  1. So far, so good.....no freezes!
  2. This may be helpful: VectorDepot market

Modify>Ungroup, so it becomes a polyline, then extrude, rotate as needed.
  4. After cycling into single monitor mode, all seems OK.
  5. Sudddenly, but coinciding with the latest Quicktime update, viewports are acting erratically, i.e. showing update required AFTER updating, not showing in new views, or only partially. Problems mostly correcting by dragging vps a little. Reproduced in fresh file, different user. after permissions repair, and numerous re-boots. Similar experiences?
  6. Right-o! Have it all sorted out now with Build(82613). Now I can use the happy emoticon. Now if NNA could just update their updater, all will be well in the world. And it was the holidays, so.......a little tardiness is in most people's lives. Thanks Katie and Pete.
  7. Very interesting...I installed SP2, and it shows up.....(see file)...but build is wrong???? Also, did "Check for Updates..." and all is cop-acetic?
  8. A little problem with 2008, must be some local setting. Viewports display in Wireframe even when set to Hidden Line or Dashed Hidden Line, UNLESS the "None" class is visible. Then all is OK, except I don't want "None" visible...
  9. Unfortunately, I can't open a student file with a pro edition... As others have implied, rendering with radiosity (and w/o as well) takes time to learn/control/perfect. Have you used learning resources from NNA? Dan Jansenson's book? etc... Have you tried using RW Camera for a more satisfying "perspective"?
  10. You may have done this already (though it doesn't appear so from the jpg), but be sure to use the reflectivity and bump maps that come with the high-quality Arroway textures, not just the diffuse (image) map. Also, the downloadable texture is 600 by 600 pixels, while the one from CD (and certainly the one used in their demo) is 6000 by 6000 pixels! The downside is your rendering times will increase a lot, and the floor texture will stand out as "more real" if the other textures aren't up to the same level.
  11. John- I am in a similar line of work, with very similar hardware, and use the Epson 1400 printer for 13 x 19 sheets. I don't like larger because of physical handling struggles on the shop floor. I'm really happy with the printer, and it's not so much money, though as for all, ink cartridges are! Although HP makes great products, in my opinion, they don't play so nice with Macs, especially Intel-based like MBP. The drivers are rarely updated for Macs, and even less supported in Universal Binary, at least for older devices. This means your MBP would have to run Rosetta for PowerPC drivers, and hog valuable resources. Epson is well known as being Mac-friendly. Canon too.
  12. Bruce- I am not yet using VW2008 (as the interiorCAD2008 plug-in is not quite ready), but have had similar behavior in my current set-up. The palettes re-size or strech-out as in your screenshot, though I would estimate less than 3% of the possible events. I have lazily attributed the behavior to either rCAD bugginess, an OS problem (Apple Discussions ) which I first thought was a VW problem ( VW Discussion ) , and most adequately, as the ghost in the machine. If the behavior is not tolerable, try upgrading to Leopard, apparently has fixed the OS issue. I'm usually OK to suffer a few anomalies when most things work so well, as we rush headlong into technology only somewhat under control, often patched, pieced, lumped, forgotten, self-generating.....
  13. I didn't know one could extrude 3D polys--you sure that's what you are doing?
  14. I switch daily from single monitor, to dual, and back again. I "suffer" with the re-positioning of palettes, though switch workspaces (as you've done) to at least manage sizes. Best I could come up with. Switching users seems like even a bigger pain.
  15. Different ways to approach--one method would be Modify>Convert to Mesh, then with Mesh object NOT selected, use the marquee select to pick a vertex (or more) and drag away. Should look just like the palette icon...;-) Read in the manuals re: 3D Modeling, could use NURBS, Loft Surface, etc. depending on what the goal is.
  16. Use classes to control visibilities. If you don't want to change classes of individual objects, then group together, say, the West Kitchen Elevation, create such a class, and turn off in VP.
  17. Thanks, Katie...though that depends on a cooperating 20-20 user, which I have, I just don't want to abuse. Any direct way?
  18. Does anyone have any experience importing to VW, or otherwise using CAD files written for 20-20 Technologies? Seem to be .dat and.idx file extensions....
  19. Don't work from the object history. Copy your base polygon and Extrude Along Path as George recommends. I tried it with your file, no prob. Lots of users do molding like this.
  20. I've discovered the attribute changes only "take" if you click on the appropriate "Preset" radio buttons....don't know why...
  21. Well, you could use RJ Mullins' handy-dandy Reshaper to place the insertion point to your liking.
