  1. Thanks Travis, that's just what I was wondering. If you can rely on it like you say I can see the direct value to design-build. Now I have to weigh if contractors will like me enough to make it worthwhile for me to frame my drawings to the point of it being accurate.
  2. Does anyone, contractor or otherwise, use the framing tool's takeoff spreadsheet? Does it help with any areas of your calculations or is it just plain easier (as well as more accurate) to figure it out from the plans & sections?
  3. I just had a similar experience with the angle tool. Inserted it was fine. Any modification with the OIP, either size or class, would make it disappear. Selecting custom size would bring it back. Tried inserting into a new drawing and same deal. Relaunched VW and all is well again.
  4. - I suppose like the double line polygon tool where you can select lines or polys . . .
  5. Creating directly as nurbs -particularly the path- will save you a lot of hassle. I've found if you convert a polyline to nurbs for your path you will later be unable to edit the path in 3D without errors.
  6. You can set your printer to distiller if you have it. There are no margins on a pdf. Or punch them in in the Set Print Area. Also, of course, a sheet will show both page size and drawing limits. [ 06-19-2005, 05:35 PM: Message edited by: Delmer ]

    Alias Maya

Thanks Andy, I have heard other good things about Cinema, thought I'd ask about Maya since the earlier Alias program was so good. You're right, I don't want to take 3D through DWG. It does say it will import eps though and that made me curious. I didn't think I could export eps in 3D.
  8. I would use the eyedropper, select a dim that is the way you like it, custom select all your dimensions, paint them.
  9. The short answer is no. The rotate grid will give you I and J coordinates that you can tab to along the top of the screen. You can also set your Constrain Angle Snap to the angle you are drawing at. I am sure you will get more suggestions. - This has been asked about by others and would be a welcome addition to the saved views function. [ 06-17-2005, 11:43 AM: Message edited by: Delmer ]
  10. After adding new plug-ins you do have to restart VW.
  11. Check these instructions: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004831
  12. Did you also install the 11.5 windows patch? http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004831 [ 06-17-2005, 08:24 AM: Message edited by: Delmer ]
  13. You won't be able to rotate individual hybrid objects like walls when not in plan view, as the message suggests. This is because you would not be able to maintain the link between the 2D and 3D portions of the object. If you need to rotate a hybrid element in 3D you will have to ungroup it and sacrifice the pure 2D element. Simple extrudes, sweeps, or any other 3D object that looks the same in plan as it does in iso or other can be rotated however you please. If it is just a different view you are looking for you can use the Flyover or other View tools to change orientation.

    Alias Maya

Way back when, I had a Mac and a small piece of software called Alias Sketch. I really liked it. Alias is still evolving with a suite of modelling and rendering products. It appears Maya is the one most geared toward architecture. Has anyone used it and can they comment on its interaction with VW? http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/industries/architecture/index.shtml
  15. Its good to see support growing. I had posted a similar wish a short time back and thought maybe I was the only one. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=001508
  16. You could wait a bit, maybe someone will give absolute confirmation, but my guess is that in that case you need to do a clean install. There are likely functions available in the full version that are not in the trial -not simply there to be 'unlocked'. [ 06-15-2005, 11:04 AM: Message edited by: Delmer ]
  17. File>Preferences>VW Preferences>Session Tab> Serial Numbers Button
  18. Yes, typically the more descriptive room but sometimes both; if there are 5 doors to your living room but this one happens to go to a patio then LR Patio would be a suggestion.
  19. This would be a simple but powerful organization tool.
  20. Ron, I think I see what is happening. When filleting an arc to a line there are different fillets that may result depending on which part of the arc you click on. I'll send you a file to hopefully explain.
  21. Yup, makes sense. I hadn't known of that little quirk. Thanks for responding.
  22. Its pretty useful. You'll also note you can create a script instead of executing immediately. This will then come up in a separate pallet and you simply have to double-click on the script to execute it.
  23. There is also the linked text handling setting on import, but your best option here is "Preserve Look", which is the default so that's not likely the issue. You can check by clicking the Use Custom option in the DWG Import Options, then Set Custom Options button, Objects tab.
  24. BG, I guess that is what you said the first time. When sheets came along I stopped using saved views for print purposes so didn't catch on. I see what you mean though, it changes your Saved View Active Layer setting to Don't Save. This probably has some relation to the fact that the Layer button in the Edit window is grayed out when saving a sheet as a view -not being able to view more than one sheet at a time. I guess the next question is what advantage do you find using saved views for sheets? I'm just curious.
  25. BG, Where exactly are you losing saved view settings? I have a number of different views with various class organizations and render options and don't seem to have any of those altered. The only thing I notice is that it will stack your sheets, which is only a hassle if you happen to have sheets pulled to different locations relative to the drawing center -something I don't often do in any case.
