  1. Redshift is not a realtime raytracer.  It is a gpu based rendering engine. Vw already has a direct link to Twinmotion via datasmith and an embedded install of Enscape and Lumion as 3rd party add ons.  These are all real time ray tracing engines.

  2. @Greggoid I had mixed success with texture mapping in TM.  All textures are universally scaled and edited in TM, changing the scale of one changes the scale of all.  I also noticed in a previous project that decal mapping was really hard to do.  Really what TM wants is everything complex to be UV mapped somewhere else and to only really work with large building shell style textures (brick/concrete etc) inside the program.  So looking at your really nice renders I would be more inclined to do the texture work in VW and export that, since the uv's easier to deal with.  I have not tried your semi transparent people props in TM, they might be an issue since they are: flat planes with transparency AND alpha channels.  I'd do a test on that before committing.

  3. @zoomer @Greggoid I took the datasmith workflow through it's paces yesterday, fleshing out some changes to an existing project that was already in Twinmotion.  I had an existing 3 sided set in Twinmotion, given to me by a client to add the 4th side to enclose it for 360 shooting.  Since the existing TM project had been textured and tweaked in sketchup prior to bringing it in, I did not have a datasmith reference file for it.  The datasmith exchange has no options to control what goes out, it's everything in the file.  So I made a shuttle file of my adds and proceeded.  The adds came into the TM file no problem, but were out of position.  I moved them into the position, and retextured them.  After receiving notes from the client, I made my changes to the master vw file, resaved the shuttle file, and sent out the datasmith file to TM to update.  Happy to report that my geometry stayed where I moved it, all texture changes made inside TM stayed put, only the changes to the geometry itself were made.

If your end goal is to produce renderings/animations out of TM from Vectorworks, I think that the datasmith workflow is great, and actually better than "send to c4d" (which still chooses to not work on my computers whenever it wants to).  My only reservation about this workflow is that TM is a closed end product.  You cannot export anything out of TM to be worked on in any other software package.  While not a dealbreaker, I do have to tell my clients when we head into TM, that we are committed to it for the duration of the project.

  4. Well I agree...but isn't what you portray in Cloud Cad going to be ruined when we work with others who use different Cloud Cad and those companies try to create walls around their user base?  Unless we have interchangeable file formats for model data, texture data, BIM data, etc it's all just moving the problem to somewhere else.  I don't see AutoDesk playing nice with Nemetschek and vice versa.

  5. These are sheet layer viewports?  Did you try checking the box in the dwg publish dialog that says "export as 2d graphics  in model space"  Here is the help file reference:

    https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2018/eng/VW2018_Guide/DXFDWG/DXF_DWG_and_DWF_File_Export.htm

It may well be that your specific artistic rendering style does not export to autocad because it has no equivalent in that program.  But your rendering style (to me) looks like a hidden line rendering w/ hatches for fills, you might be able to make that using some other rendering option.

  6. I have noticed lately that in OpenGL mode I am unable to select and object and have it appear in the OIP.  I get the highlight in the screen, but the OIP remains unchanged.  I have to go back to wireframe, select an object, and restart OpenGL.  I will post a video today, but wondering if others have seen this issue.

  7. when I bought my current rig (I9 10980XE) from Boxx I asked about that.  They said that the Ryzen does offer a better multithreaded performance but the I9 was better when you have a mix of single vs multi threaded applications.  Don't forget to beef up your graphics card as well when you update.

  8. A long time ago I had a vision that I could pull length and width of my 3d rectangles that I used for print graphics on set models, and put them on a worksheet for a graphics schedule.  I worked with a VW trainer to set this up, and then we both came to the conclusion that the worksheet data is only accurate when pulling that information in a Top/Plan view.  If the rectangle was in any other orientation, the data would be inaccurate.  Such a pity.

  9. @Kevin K on good day I can make a rectangle in marionette.  Most days I stare at the myriad of nodes like a first timer at Home Depot..."so many options and I have no clue what I'm looking for..."

If I could find the time I would absolutely seek out a marionette master and pay them good money to teach me how to use/think in marionette.  I know the things I want to do, I just can't get there from where I am.

I pointed out GSG+ and Cineversity because I feel that I have had a much better experience learning from them than from Vectorworks U.  They are granular and accessible, and watching pros do their work is a really great way to learn.

  10. @Kevin K agreed with the watering down of RS for VW.  It is unfortunate that it has to be that way, there a lot of great features.  I do know of what you speak with regards to nodes, I often go the simple route as well.

Lumion is for mac?  I don't follow the developments on that front.  I would just say, that adding ANY of that type of pre-vis to VW is so helpful that it's hard to imagine we came so far without it.

  11. I have to agree, Redshift is a game changer.  And while I don't think Redshift for VW would really work (how do you do all of those node based texture operations inside of vw???) I also have certainly found that Enscape is a fantastic Look/Dev tool inside of VW.  Since it is also practically realtime, I can work in VW, and get a good "rough" of what's going on in realtime, and then head on over to C4D/Redshift for the real heavy duty renders.
