  1. I've got a drawing whereby I want to copy and paste objects from another file and then move a fixed distance (X=-14069.7mm and Y=-10970.8mm to be precise). Presumably I can make a script that does this but I don't know where to start.
  2. Ah right, thanks Katie. I'll submit a bug on the class thing.
  3. Has the Polygons to Walls tool been removed from the default workspace because it's so buggy? It appears to have problems knowing which is the inside and outside line of a polygon (causing problems with direction and placement of wall), and it doesn't place the walls in the class you specify. I'm using a template created in 12.0.1. Is anyone else having these problems?
  4. Abvent have finally released their Artlantis export plugin for Vectorworks 12.5: http://www.abvent.com/support/download/
  5. Exactly. Hmm, could anyone else open it? Redundant anyway I guess because everyone seems to understand what I'm saying anyway.
  6. Same here, everything's appears quicker (especially so opening files off a network).
  7. There are probably a number of workarounds Matthew (such as your suggestion, or using workgroup referencing), but that was my point; they're workarounds and thus difficult. Workarounds are fine in offices with one or two people, but they're a major problem when you have multiple people with different levels of expertise. I'm hopeful that the colour system in VW will eventually get an overhaul.
  8. Katie, in order to have more colours available you have to change the colour palette, but what if you've already got classes and symbols set up to use certain colours? Presumably your symbols and classes will start using the new colour pallette? This would make it difficult to have both working drawings and presentation drawings in the same file (i.e. if you don't want your symbols and classes messed with).
  9. Furthermore and possibly related to this rotate wish: Would it be possible, I wonder, to have a system whereby you can place your building in its correct geographic position and rotation in terms of origin and with north directly up the page, but then to be able to rotate the drawing so you can work on the plans at right angles, independent of the building's correct geographic position and angle. I'm just thinking aloud here. Anyone want to chime in and explain why this is a bad idea? Or a good one?
  10. Most agree with you: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB20&Number=63586
  11. Yeah I'm using Saved Views. It's the setting up in the first place that shouldn't need to be so onerous.
  12. Yeah, good point, which makes the ability to select multiple objects within a wall all the more important.
  13. As per Nicholas' comments, but even if it is centred on the origin my perspective is very distorted and very difficult to adjust to look roughly like the orthogonal view. Maybe I'm missing something? Here's an example of a drawing set to an orthogonal view. If you like, give it a go and tell me how many clicks and how much time you need to have the same orthogonal view, but in perspective. Better but still fidgety and as Nicholas points out, not always an option.
  14. At the moment you need to go through what feel like endless adjustments to set a perspective view. I'd like to be able to switch from an orthoganal view to perspective and have VW calculate the perspective view based on the orthoganal view I just came from.
  15. Indeed, there are workarounds, but that doesn't stop them from being downsides. Personally I'd rather we were simply able to select multiple objects in walls, and that symbols didn't prevent PIOs from being intelligent.
  16. Mike's referring to this post: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthrea...66456#Post66366
  17. Although, NNA appears to have moved away from standalone updaters so your best bet is to order update discs as soon as you can. I think it's a pity NNA have moved away from standalone updaters. This doesn't appear to be with end users in mind.
  18. Mike's on the button Laurence, and I'd give his last piece of advice ago if you can too; working with a model makes draughting all the more pleasureable.
  19. There was a lot of pressure for NNA to get this update out because Intel-based Mac users Jason. Ask a lot of people around here and they'll tell you this update was delayed. I prefer to wait and have as stable a product as possible, but avoiding 100% of possible bugs is next to impossible as far as I understand software programming.
  20. To be fair Mike, Katie didn't say it was bothersome to have such a wish, she said it was bothersome to expect that any and every wish be implemented in the next version of VW, no matter how complex. She even implies that development in this area is taking place. I would second Matthew's wish though. It's a little more than simply adding wall components to live sections.
  21. I understand that this is not a trivial feature to implement, and that, for me, would be enough to explain why it's not implemented yet. However, my concern is that NNA doesn't understand the importance of this feature and that this may be slowing its development. I'm willing to concede that I may be wrong but I was just surprised to hear Andrew even ask the question, would it be "that useful?" As Andrew clearly points out, however, he's only speaking on a personal level so it's unfair to interprete this as a general attitude at NNA.
  22. I'm not an expert and I don't know how important it is that you have your machine as soon as possible, but if I were getting one of these machines for work at the moment I would certainly get the X1900. You can read what Apple have to say about it here: http://www.apple.com/macpro/graphics.html I'd also advise putting some more RAM in it as soon as you can.
  23. I concur with Mike. Clearly there's a lack of understanding at NNA about the importance of this, which appears to be attributable to an historic focus on the main form of construction in the U.S. I'll bring it up at the October 3rd meeting in London. Here're the relevant wishlist items: Components to live sections http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB20&Number=62896 Wall components in section viewports http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB20&Number=64428 Ability to define the class of wall components http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB20&Number=59760
  24. Hmm, didn't know there were UK versions of VW floating around. Didn't think Computers Unlimited were up to it. In any case, one way around your CD/DVD problem is to create a disc image of the DVD and open it off your hard drive or a network. You create disc images in Mac OS X with Disk Utility. Dunno how you do it in Windows.
  25. Got our DVD installer today. There doesn't appear to be any difference as far as I can work out. HDRI images, as far as I can work out, are also missing, as per: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB12&Number=65602 What made you think there'd be "uk version items" as non-standard Michael?
