  1. I just bought VW12, so I am not very familiar with it. However the Tool Sets is a basic item, like the OIP. You had best call Tech Support. Let us know how it turns out.
  2. Window>Pallets>Tool Sets. Then from this pallet click on Detailing. That should do it.
  3. quote: Originally posted by Travis: ...To extend this idea a bit further: In house, we always prepare each published set of drawings as a .pdf "Book" complete with hyperlinked page tabs. Once you know the workflow, takes about 15 extra minutes to compile. Recently, on a project for the University, they required the as-builts in .pdf format with all drawing references "hot-linked" to the appropriate detail/elevation sheet. (ie, you click on a detail reference marker and jump to the detail.) Took my assistant less than two hours using Acrobat. Good luck, Travis, this sounds interesting. Given that I do not have an "assistant" to task this to, could you enlighten me on how to do this? Are you hot-linking all of your details? Do the detail markers look any different once they are linked? Thanks in advance, Kevin [ 01-16-2006, 01:40 AM: Message edited by: Kevin ]
  4. VW8 was a long time ago. I am not sure that I remember the old location and what it may have done. Look under Tool Sets>Detailing. There are numberous structural shape tools there. Is this what you are looking for?
  5. Then perhaps NNA could provide a statement to clear this up. I understand where they cannot, (or will not), give an answer to when VW will be Universal Binary. But surely NNA has already tested VW12 under Rosetta. They should at least be able to say that it does or does not work.
  6. The MacBook Pro is ready to order, but as far as I know, you cannot walk out of an Apple store with one in hand. The Apple Web Store will give you all the info you need on that. Yes, Rosetta is the transition software that will allow Power PC software to run on the Intel Core Duo. It is a bit soon to know how fast Rosetta is. Remember that Virtual PC is taking a MIcrosoft operating system and running it on an Apple OS. Rosetta is Apple software running Apple software on an Apple OS. I would expect Rosetta to run smoother than Virtual PC, (just my opinion). According to Apple't testing, the new MacBook Pro is quite a bit faster. Take a look at the comparison between a Core Duo iMac and a G5 iMac. I agree with alanmac that the increased processor power will probably make up for the software conversion of Rosetta. NNA has given a commitment to the Intel Mac. Public release of Apple's hardware was scheduled for around June 2006. I would expect that NNA is working to that schedule. Also keep in mind that it will take you, the user, some time to learn Vectorworks. As a new user, you will probably not need a blazingly fast experience. By the time you are proficient in using VW, NNA will probably have released a native version of VW. So go a head and order that beautiful new MacBook Pro. (If you don't, I will!).
  7. Just to be clear. Apple has two pro lines of laptops. One is the venerable Powerbook. The other is the new and not released yet MacBook Pro. The Powerbook is a G4 processor and should run VW12 just fine. TheMacBook Pro will be an Intel processor. NNA says that it is committed to supporting VW12 on the new Intel Macs. That suggests that the current release of VW12 is not Intel native. It would therefore run on a MacBook Pro using the emulation program called Rosetta which I assume is now a part of OS10.4.4. In theory, VW12 should run in emulation. The question is how emulation on a very fast new processor will affect the speed of VW12. Of course NNA may release a native version of VW12 by the time that a MacBook Pro is available for purchase :-) I have a 1ghz Powerbook. I love it. The new MacBook Pro looks even better. I suspect that I may very well own one before the end of this year. [ 01-15-2006, 01:57 PM: Message edited by: Kevin ]
  8. I have had this happen on a 466 G4. The video card on the 466, (and I assume on the 400) is a pretty old card. My recolection is that it cannot take advantage of Quartz Rendering. I looked at upgrading the card. I bought one but it caused new problems. I decided that a new G5 was the wiser choice. Some stores will allow you to return a purchased video card. You might look at a newer card and see if that solves the problem. You can return it if it does not work out.
  9. GimpPrint is a blessing for using unsupported printers. But as Travis points out, it is better to have a printer specific driver that is supported by the manufacturer. Thanks to GimpPrint, I am still using my seven year old HP 455CA. Without Gimp, I would still be on OS9 or buying a new printer. My only complaint is that printing with Gimp is rather slow. I can only turn out 3 to 4 "D" size, line drawings per hour.

  11. Cottam, Glad that you got things figured out. Gee, I wish I had an office tech person to call. Instead I have to talk to myself :-)
  12. Alan, That seems like a good idea, but I could never get it to do anything better than what the stock VW batch print command does. I believe Mike's question relates to the fact that batch printing requires user intervention during each page that is printed. You have to click print, (or save), and then give the page a name for each sheet in your print job. I too am curious if Automator could "automate" this task. It seems simple enough to have a program "click" print and then give the document a sequencial number. Once all sheets are printed you can merge them to one document with Acrobat Pro or other PDF utilities.
  13. I am confused too. I created four doors that are all the same. The door ID reads D-01. The door schedule shows four doors, all of them as D-01. Now I go and change the size of a door. In the worksheet I choose recalculate and the new size is shown on the schedule. But the door ID is still D-01 I can have four completely different doors that are all labeled as D-01. Surely I am missing something.
  14. Older versions of VW were able to create 4 panel sliders. Can the older door plug-in be used in VW12?
  15. quote: Originally posted by GJ: This happened to me and it was tracked down to the rediculous ease with which one can click "Scale Entire Drawing" accidentally, instead of "Scale Text". That check box has got to move (and should require an act of congress) because it is not immediately discernable and once you go beyond your undo limits, you're in alot of trouble. GJ Thank you for writing. This is exactly what I did. It is good to know that this may be the root cause of my problem. I agree, that the Scale Command needs to be revised. It needs a second confirmation dialog. Something like: "Warning, you are about to rescale your entire drawing. Serious consequences may result. Are you sure you want to do this?"
  16. Katie, The key question is whether the viewport behaviour is tied to the user or the software. If you are certain that this behavior is not the fault of the software, then I am satisfied. The problem is in the same file as before. Based on your comments, I will have to assume that the file became corrupted and that corruption has reappeared. I simply do not want to invest more of my time into version 12 to find that this unacceptable behaviour still exists. The fact that others had experienced this problem led me to believe that it was a software bug. I would like to know what the other causes of this behavior are, that you found. It would help me and others to avoid this problem. Thank you, Katie.
  17. Eric, My HP455CA is around 7 years old. It has never needed work except for a new drive belt. I replaced the belt myself. Travis, That would be a huge improvement for me. I would love to be able to send a large print job to the printer and walk away. Thanks for the info.
  18. I have a question in addition. On my HP 455CA, it will continue printing even though it is out of ink. It can, (and has), spit out a whole stack of blank paper because of no ink. How do the new Epson and HP printers handle an out of ink condition?
  19. Eric, Did you find the cause of the viewports disappearing? It sounds like you have not.
  20. Hi Katie, The behaviour appears to be the same as before. When NNA reviewed the file that I submitted, I was not given a cause for the behaviour. I was told the obvious of what was wrong with the drawing, but not why it happened. I volunteered the possible idea that I had inadvertantly enabled "entire drawing" when using the scale command. NNA did not acknowledge my input. Your comment here is the first from NNA to link the scale command to the behaviour. However, I have not used the scale command since then. This latest viewport behaviour is not a result of my using the scale command again. Katie are you positive that there is a link between scale command and the viewport behaviour? Other users have experienced the same or similar behaviour. Have their experiences been tied to the scale entire drawing command? This behaviour is like "a theif in the night". It occurs without warning and it steals my time, effort, and income. NNA needs to establish a positive cause for this behaviour and then alert users on how to avoid it. I am at a crossroads. I cannot and will not continue to work with a product that arbitrarily loses my work. I have VWA12. If I can be assured that this viewport behaviour is limited to version 11, then I will move on to version 12. Eric, Thank you for your input regarding version 12. The key question is: did you experience this viewport behaviour when using version 11?
  21. It happened again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See my new and perhaps last topic: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=005717
  22. Normally I am pretty tolerant of bugs. I often rise to the defense of NNA regarding comments and complaints on this board. Right now, I am not tolerant, nor calm. I just opened a file and once again my viewports are empty. This has happened before. I have listed the problem here: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004058;p=1#000024 With most bugs, it means that I/we avoid using that tool or proceedure. The result is either undesirable behaviour or nothing happens at all. This however is different. I have a fully formated set of working drawings that has already gone into city plan check. Now when I open the file to make plan check corrections, the pages are blank!!! I had planned on making these minor corrections and then printing and re-submitting the drawings to the City. I cannot do that now as I must rebuild the drawings to simply get back to where I can start working. What do I tell my client? "Well no sir, I did not submit your drawings to the City because they dissappeared". This is serious enough that I will either leave Vectorworks or go back to version 9.5 and not even start using my new copy of 12.0.
  23. I too got a similar BadZipfile message. I restarted the computer and tried the installation again. The second time was sucessful. VWA 12 on OS10.3.9 on a 1Ghz powerbook.
