  1. Most likely this is working as designed. Design Layer Viewports were designed in part to alleviate the desire to place whole rooms or buildings within symbols. Jim, Will have to look further into the Design Layer Viewports as there must be good reason ans mentioned above. I use design layer viewports when I have multiple floors in an office building and it generates the elevations and sections easily. But for small units, will have to investigate once i understand why you recommend the alternative. Thanks
  2. In this one i have set all the Design layers to Zero and wall heights to zero. This way you can deal with the different wall heights in individual buildings (Symbols) Could set wall heights and manage them the same way with offsets in the OIP. I have found that any roofs that cover more then 1 unit may have to be done in a separate design layer, rather than the symbol as you can then control the step in the roof between units better. By setting your site model to world co-ordinates (Real Rl's) when you set your symbol to the correct RL it sits perfectly in the terrain. Seems to work well but happy to hear other ways to do this. By the way I see you have a large block for the site model, if you go into site model settings and set your min Elevation to a few metres below you lowest RL for your site model it will raise the base up so you get a nice thin site model.

  4. Hi, You are probably using a wall style and have not set the wall height. Am doing a development at present with 3 Townhouse types within 5 separate building blocks, each two level. Not sure if its the best way but am open to suggestions. So each of my townhouses are set up at zero and then I created a Symbol for each and moved the symbol to the relative level RL 181.500 and my first floors are same but the symbol has been created 3m higher at RL 184.500, so I move the symbol to the floor level of that unit and it sits perfectly. Each unit (Symbol) can be placed at different levels depending on the site location and you can see how it fits to the site and whether you need to move it up or down of flatten a section of the site. All works fine only issue is if you have one unit at the end of the block and it has a window you can either create a new symbol or just leave the wall out and add it in the design layer. Hope this helps Attached part image of work in progress, each unit is a separate symbol, no referenced viewports. Symbol of one first floor unit with wall styles.
  5. Hi, I may have the wrong end of this but VW2015 dimensions in perspective. Annotation layer is screen plane so wont dimension in perspective as I understand. Happy to hear otherwise.
  6. Hi, I used the chamfer tool to create this. Created 2 extruded rectangles chamfers one then sat the unchamfed one on top of the other, added together as a solid then chanfered the mitre under the bottom of the top one.
  7. LOL, Sorry I apologize if I offend but your crazy, How did you learn all this stuff, its amazing the depth of knowledge that is on tap in this forum. Love it. Alan
  8. Hi, We had a similar issue with another program and it turned out that when an adjustment was made to the server permissions by our IT person many of our file became read only, The permissions were changed and all was ok. Maybe with the installation of the new program the permissions changed. Hope this helps.
  9. Ho,Ho,Ho, There is always something to learn. Thanks
  10. Hi, The Classes etc are preset but you can change them. See the bottom of the Object Info Pallet when you select the window yo get the left hand image and this tells you what class all the components of the window go onto. Peter will be able to give you a better overview as he has a good knowledge of all this.
  11. Hi, I use File > Export >PDF or image file, Not sure if the result is different. With the export image file you can select a section of the drawing by drawing a marquee around the section you need.
  12. Hi, I may be missing something but can the latest VW2015 create a zig-zag stair in the standard stair tool without reverting to the custom stair tool. Example attached where you can with custom stair add various landings and treads and different angles and configuration as you go???

    Stairs

Hi, its the custom stair. the new 2015 VW stair tool does not have some of the earlier tool sets controls. God only knows why. You to go to the utility menu / building shell and select the custom stair tool and bring it over. This was the old version as I understand. There are a lot of tool in here that are not in your normal pallet and 2 that are handy are the extruded polygon and rectangle. Good luck.

    Stairs

Hi, I have simply drawn the selected the U configuration from the select standard configuration the U shade stair and it starts off with a number of tread in the middle set of stairs between the 2 landings then I put 0 treads in that section and I get the attached image. Hope this helps.
  15. Nice. It would be nice to be able to use the slab tool and have it sloping and then you can use all the benefits of the slab tool. Hopefully this can be included.
  16. Me 2 could you give a further explanation for a Noob like me?
  17. Yes, In the scale Objects dialogue click on the arrows to the right of the current distance box then go to drawing and click the first then last point, they you will be back at the dialogue box then type in the new distance and the object will scale. This takes the guess work out of scaling. Hope this is what you were after.
  18. Hi, I was referring to textures applied to a 3D object. The 2d hatches you have to remake as I understand. Happy to be corrected as I am still learning.
  19. Hi, just adjust the Offset V in the Object info -Render pallet and one will move up or down. You can also nudge the block so the patterns align and then reshape the block and the hatch stays aligned. May be a quicker way.
  20. Hi, Have found if you really can't get rid of the lines we convert the viewpoint to polylines and delete the offending lines and then use this over a openGL viewport or FQRW VP. We only do this when we are at the final presentation stage.
  21. Hi, Might be the sheet layer resolution set to default of 72dpi, Try changing it to say 200dpi in the organization pallet under sheet layers. Regard
  22. Hi, Am doing a development at present with 3 Townhouse types within 5 separate building blocks, each two level. Not sure if its the best way but am open to suggestions. I do everything relative to surveyors world co-ordinates. So each building has a real level like RL 181.500 and the 3D site model is modelled according to the survey. This way when the builder and surveyor sets out the buildings there is no argument as to what height the slabs are to be set at. I don't have to do any calculations relating to moving things and maybe getting them wrong. Think the only reason I would reference in a unit is if I have different staff working on different units. I certainly VP reference in things like survey as I don't want all the classes from the survey in my drawing. Love to hear other ways as I am always keen to learn. Regard
