  1. Kevin, Surprisingly quick, in open GL with shadows being cast the rotation is immediate, no lag at all. But I do have a reasonably quick Computer. The file size is only 30k.
  2. Well found more bits from VW and this all done in VW.
  3. I'd say you probably have the dimension and the wall on different Design Layers.
  4. I think the problem is that there is no longer a circle or arc in you drawing. the profile at the top is a 3d shape so you can only pick the corners. Workaround is to draw a 3point arc to follow your curve in annotations and you then have a centre point to dimension to. HTH
  5. This is all great stuff, you can spend a lot of time trying to figure out these rendering setups. Wes, the "Hillside EL White" Has a nice quality about it, can show Client the form without necessarily getting into materials. Is there 2 Viewports to get the exterior lights to render in colour, or how was that achieved. Regards
  6. Nice look, what did you add in PS? I used to do most in PS but with things changing all the time I started to push VW as far as i could. Looking at it all could be done in VW.
  7. I use Windows and you can pull the palettes to the side and they should snap to a vertical column, wherever you pull to they will snap across the screen or up and down. Left, right, top etc. If you put one over the top of the other and double click the top they should join together.
  8. Ah, Yes the Tool Set, Still can't remember what they are all really called, I just use them, so am a bit of a Noob with all that.
  9. How about breaking the boredom with a challenge to produce the best sculpture out of the Machine Parts in the Tool Set??? Bit of Fun (maybe) Well I started with the bottom bit of... (See attached)
  10. Hi, Yea it was really a general enquiry and as I am an architect I use mainly most of the other stuff but the items in this palette are so specific and so carefully done, I wondered who actually uses then in their profession to document something. If anyone does I would be interested in seeing some of the work. I could understand where many of these could be used in engines etc, so just interested. I understand the Spotlight and Landmark versions but these seem an Tool Set without a home.
  11. If you export a script from one drawing and import it into a blank you get all the classes, design layers, sheet layers and viewports, but not any saved views. Does this mean saved views are not a script? If you go to the saved view and say edit script it appears blank. Actually on further investigation when you export the script as a text file at the end are the saved views that I would think if you know scripting which I don't you could recreate them. (Maybe)
  12. Hi, I am interested to know if anyone uses the Machine Components OIP and all its wonderful and detailed items?? I personally have not had a use for them, but then again Sculpture.
  13. You will need to model the first tread and the rest of the steps can be done with the stair tool. But with the handrail you will probably need to model that also as there are pretty limited options for the handrail in the stair tool.
  14. If you had WinDoor (Australian/NewZealand Version)you can have a few cavity sliders in the one pocket. Allows 9 doors in the dropdown menue.
  15. A simple thing you can do is extract the face of the wall and extrude it by 1mm and then you can colour all the wall whatever you want and have 1 wall style. You could even cut the extracted surface in 2, high and low and paint top a colour and the bottom wood paneling.
  16. That's pretty cool. Someone thought outside the square to come up with that.
  17. Well no one could figure out why this occurred not even the VW Engineers from the States, hadn't seen this before, and hopefully I wont see it again.
  18. I am Doing one the same where i have 8 2 storey blocks with only a few plan types. Have used Design Layer Viewports (Exrefed) in. so a seperate file for the plan types and these get referenced in and copied around and adjusted to suit the levels that they are to be on. The rest of the site works that is not common to a unit type goes in the main drawing on say Site Works layer. There is a special way to control the classes in the viewports also that took a bit to understand but once done all work out ok. if you use all 0.05 wall line weights you can control them in the viewports to bump them up. Also the elevations that come from the 3d model will also show thin lines. HTH Look at this post at bottom shows the Drawings. https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=42794&Number=213469#Post213469 Also help file for controling the classes int design layer viewports file:///C:/Program%20Files/Vectorworks2015/VWHelp/HTML5/index.htm#rhsearch=design%20layer%20viewports&rhsyns=%20&t=VW2015_Guide%2FViewports%2FChanging_the_Layer_Properties_of_Sheet_Layer_or_Design_Layer.htm%23XREF_27935_Changing_the_Layer PS had trouble with the wall heights if you use storeys so stay away from them as when you bring in the viewport it relates to the storey and the wall heights will reset to 0 height. Bound by layer height I had no problems. When you draw each unit plan set the ground floor to 0 then first floor to say 2400. Then in the main drawing adjust the viewport up to the desired level.
  19. We have the same problem at the office and even with all the help from Sydney VW still can't activate. (Caused by computer being rebuilt and needed to reinstall VW and can't activate)
  20. Hi, See Attached, No error in creating and I Clipped surface rather than create solid because this way you keep the roof object rather then losing it by creating a solid. VW2015 and VW2010 HTH
  21. Thanks, you are certainly right about the "There is a lot of related controls here" and I will certainly have to dig deeper as this hopefully will give more value to doing a 3D model and using Design Layer viewport referencing for multiple building or similar items.
  22. Hi, I have a house plan as a referenced viewport from another separate file and I have 2 viewport one with electrical information on it and the other the base plan. I want to turn off the electrical in one viewport and not the other which you can do in any other normal viewport BUT when you adjust any class in any of the viewports it affects all the other viewports. What am I missing. Normally you can copy one viewport and change the classes but not so in a referenced viewport. Any ideas, Thanks Also it seems that the class in the Xref viewport is overridden by the class in the final drawing. So I have walls set at 0,35 in the original house drawing but in the final drawing are set at 0.05 because i don't want the walls in 3d elevation to show at 0.35. There is a thing when you change the class in the viewport which says "do not update from source object" but it seems not to override this.
  23. Hi, Serious problem with a file. The work that is in the annotation layer is randomly moving when you reopen the file. Working to a deadline on a medium size project and this happens, it started with the grid lines and bubbles that were copied over to the annotation layer moved way off the page and the grid numbers went in a different direction. But today the details that I copied over to the annotation layer that were groups like detail window information, Kitchen elevation, gutter that were all groups seemed to be affected. So far what was actually drawn in the annotation layer has not moved. You put it back and it moves again, not straight away but when you least want this to happen. Any Ideas?? Will get a file to Sydney office of VW first thing in the morning, but this is most disturbing, the Client wont be sympathetic I am sure. Help!!!! PS, When I open the backup files they all seem to be affected now, even though the drawing was fine all day and I have min 10 back ups every 15min. The moved items seem to be linked in the group still see attachment also.
  24. As long as you have your snaps on you will lock in on the points pretty well, even just holding the curser over a corner I find the best.
  25. The file structure is exactly the same in your user folder as your program folder ( if set up properly) also if you use work group folder for an office setup. As Wes said put all your special stuff in these folders rather than the main program folder as when you have an upgrade to the program all will not be wiped by the upgrade. When you call up for a new title block (or texture or wall style etc) the program searches User file first then Workgroup folder and last the program folder. If you have your special title blocks in your user folder and all the files and folders named the same as in the program folder the program will stop at the user folder and show your special title blocks and won't continue to the program files. Great way for limiting what you see, especially wall styles where ther are heaps in the program file. HTH Look at the sheet border. Jpg post earlier you will see the path to my workgroup folder and if you look at the program file structure you will notice all the names and folders ar same from workgroup on as in the program file right down to the name of the file "Custom title block.vwx". Has to match exactly otherwise it will not work.
