  1. whoops! That went before I was done composing... I was about to say something (only half way intelligent) about using symbols and working planes... But I take your point. In a 2D only world it should behave like you want. I'll have to go back and look at VW12. I don't remember it switching H&W when rotating... Pressing send for real... michaelk
  2. I think it has always been thus. Or at least for a long time. I'm pretty sure that this behavior would be categorized as "a feature, not a bug." Imagine you had drawn the rectangle, extruded it, angled the extrude 45?, subtracted another solid from it, and then mirrored it. By applying a sufficient number of double clicks
  3. I had a similar problem w/ 2009. (But I haven't noticed it yet in 2010.) There was a script from NNA that solved most of it. I usually find that forcing a redraw solves it. Right arrow, left arrow puts you back into the view you want w/ a forced redraw. hth michaelk

  5. Good suggestion - I think most users would find it easier if the Standard Views related to the temporary work environment that exists when a Working Plane is being used. Some might like to have it as a option though. Maybe I wasn't being clear, Mike. And I haven't worked w/ 2010 yet to be totally confident about this yet. Are you saying that it does currently behave the way I would like it to? My biggest wish for working planes is to be able to enter a working plane and have all the views be relative to that plane and not to the ground plane. And for there to be some feedback to the user of what the current view is and relative to what plane. To me it seems like that would be the whole reason for using working planes... to work in that plane for a while... You can access saved Working Planes via the Active Plane pop-up on the View Bar (see image below). I'm not seeing that on my computer. That pull down is grayed out. Is there something I need to set up first or a preference to set? You will need to get used to that because that is the way it is. Not ideal but easily overcome with some user care. But this is a wish list forum! My analogy is this: In the past I was used to using convoluted layer links and byzantine procedures to generate sections. But VPs are a much better solution. NNA is obviously interested in improving the working plane experience. My hope is that this is like VPs in VW11: a first step. The fact that the palette doesn't resize and WP names are not unique feels out of character from the rest of the application. It feels like a legacy from a much earlier version.   6. Just had a look at working planes in 2010... MUCH easier to set working planes. Much more positive feedback when creating and working in working planes. More (and recurring) wishes: 1. I don't understand the new view cues. If I go into a working plane and then go to a left view, then the view pull down doesn't say left. Not sure what Rotated Top means. This seems more confusing (to my already confused little brain) than it was in 2009. I'd like to go into a working plane and then change views relative to that working plane until I return to the ground plane. (Or is it layer plane now?) 2. The Working Plane Palette is still not resizable (on macs). 3. The scroll wheel still doesn't scroll the Working Plane Palette (on macs). 4. The Working Plane Palette still allows two different working planes to have the same name. Recipe for confusion. Keep up the good work. michaelk
  7. Fixed! Thanks, Juan. Turns out they had already discovered this potential bug and were working on it as I was posting the problem. It's a Mac only problem. If anyone else is experiencing this issue, email Juan at the address above. michaelk
  8. Thanks for the ideas, gentlemen. It happens with all the pdfs I tried from many different sources. I haven't tried using a pdf created from VW. I'll give that a go. I am able to import the pdf I need into VW2009. But opening that file in 2010 causes an immediate crash. michaelk
  9. Just started setting up my first new project in 2010. Trying to import a pdf causes an immediate VW crash. Doesn't matter if I import from the file menu, drag a pdf in, or create a reference to a pdf. Doesn't matter if I try with a brand new empty document or an existing document - instant crash. Any ideas? michaelk
  10. First place to look is http://www.fieldtemplate.com/ The Iris Cyc lights are standard in VW - under Strand. You can also make your own symbols. hth michaelk

  12. Not sure if there is a default database worksheet in the library... But this is how to roll your own: 1. Right click in the Resource Browser > New Resource in ____ > New Worksheet. Accept the default. (You can add more rows/columns by dragging the bottom right corner.) 2. Right click on a row heading (Leave a blank row or 2 at the top for headings, etc.) Let's say you pick row 3 for this example. 3. Select Database. 4. In the next dialog box, make the pulldowns be: Type Is Lighting Device 5. In the cells in Row 3 enter stuff like: =('Lighting Device'.'Channel') =('Lighting Device'.'Dimmer') =('Lighting Device'.'Circuit Number') =('Lighting Device'.'Position') you get the idea.... All the instruments will be in rows 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc... Check the manual about worksheets for how to sort. It's really easy. All changes you make in the worksheet instantly change in the drawing. Changes you make in the OIP of a an instrument will change in the worksheet after you refresh it by clicking the little triangle in top left corner and choosing Recalculate. A couple hints: 1. Click the triangle in the top left corner. Format Cells... You will wear a groove with your mouse going to this screen. Cells can be formatted from there. Kind of like excel 100 years ago. Deselecting Database Headers will make row 3 with the weird numbers go away. 2. The gobo field is called =('Lighting Device'.'Template'). Don't know why. 3. Include the fields 'Alt-Chan' and 'Alt-Dim' and use them to sort by channels and dimmers. Because the Channel and Dimmer fields are text fields so they sort alphabetically. ie. 1,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,2,20.... 4. Right clicking on a row header and left clicking on Select Item will cause the drawing to zoom to that instrument and select it. Very helpful. I often have the worksheet open to cover the top quarter of the screen so I can use this feature and still see the drawing underneath. If you are using a mac, you can double click the top of the worksheet to window shade it out of the way. It takes a little time to set up, but it's a resource. So it can import it into all your drawings and reuse it. hth michaelk

  16. Yes, I was able to move them normally. If they also move for you in the file I posted, then something may have gotten corrupted on your original file. michaelk

  20. Vectorworks > Preferences... > Display Tab > Display Light Objects: Only in wireframe or Never hth michaelk
  21. What version are you using? Are you using Sum Insts, Sum Colors, and/or Sum Circuits and trying to move those labels? If so, that won't work. There is only one handle on Lighting Position Objects: the handle for the whole position label. You can't edit all of the Sum... positions. hth michaelk
  22. Make sure the 2D selection tool is in "Single Object Interactive Scaling Mode" (top left corner of the window, it's the arrow pointing down left and up right). That will make the handles of the labels visible and allow you to move them around. hth michaelk
