  1. You?re welcome. I haven?t really looked at the trouble with the border, but I know that there has been some discussion about the border. You can change the border settings from the Object Info Palette, but you can?t get rid of the line on the edge of the page... I wish you could.
  2. i write a competent Architectural Tutorial you can find it at: https://plus36.safe-order.net/archoncad/manuals/manuals.php there is a version 12 manual available but it is not yet listed on the web page.
  3. if you use fewer layers and more classes in your drawings then you can use classes to control visibility and graphic style. If you are using vw12 then you can set up viewports and you can edit the graphic style of classes in a viewport. This is even better than grey layers, because you can change the lineweight, line style and colour. But you need to use classes for this.
  4. you don?t say if you are using VectorWorks 11 or VectorWorks 12. In VectorWorks 12 there is a way to find out which veiwports are on a sheet. On the Organization dialog box there is a tab for viewports. This will show you the sheet layer that the viewports are assigned to. If you sort the list by the sheet name you can see all the viewports on a sheet layer.
  5. my suggestion is to edit the new v12 title block in the Standard Title Blocks.mcd. they have all the links to the record formats that the drawing border needs. using your old title blocks could cause problems as the links may not be the same, so when you place the title block, you can't edit the title block easily. It doesn't take long to add your log and edit the standard title blocks.
  6. double click on an existing door, or click on the preferences button before you place a door. Click on the View tab. There are special classes settings were you choose the classes for each part of the door. Go through these settings before you use the door (or Window) in a project to make sure that the classes are set the way that you you want. The other suggestion is to make one of these doors into a library object, then just place it from the Resource Browser when you need a door. For those that need it, this is covered in my new VectorWorks 12 Architect tutorial...
  7. Marek, when you want to look at the 3D view, either use the stacked layers command or create a new layer ( i call it Mod-3D Model) and layer link all the other model layers (floors) into it. Then you should see all the other floors stacked up neatly.
  8. this concept is covered in my new architect manual for version 12
  9. you have to move files around in the library folder of VectorWorks. If you move the files in the Libraries\Defaults\Renderworks - Textures\ folder then you should be able to control the default textures. Even better, you could put your own textures in this folder for ultimate control
  10. you might be right but you could try this. Set your dtm to show 2D Countours (smoothed) Create a snapsot assign it to a class. Make the class invisible. assign the site model to a class. Now you can turn the classes on and off to make the different drawings
  11. NNA sell some good turorial manuals for VectorWorks
  12. Ramon, one thing you can try, it to edit the class attributes on hte section viewport. First you make sure that Use Attibutes of Original Objects is turned on. then click on the Classes... button Choose the class that you want to edit. Click on the Edit... button Change the graphic attributes of the roof and floor to suit you. You can select bit classes and edit them at the same time, or you can edit them individually to be different. Then OK all the dialog boxes to get back to your drawing. Update the viewport and you should see the new graphics I like this new ability a lot and I have covered it in my new Essential manual
  13. one way of looking at this issue is that if you need some of the Architect (or other Designer series modules), then you need them and they will pay for themselves. The others that you don?t need (at the moment) are just a bonus...
  14. if you have never checked out the marvelous WinDoor tools from OZcad (http://www.ozcad.com.au). WinDoor will make bay windows and will put the walls above and below the windows. the neat trick is that you can turn off the jambs at the corners for butt glass corners
  15. of course, on the standard workspace the F key will toggle the smart edge on or off...
  16. the title blocks are sotred in a folder on your computer: C:\Program Files\VectorWorks 12.0.0\Libraries\Defaults\Drawing Border - Title Blocks\ you can edit any of the titleblocks in these files. the prefix on the title block record format looks liek it is used to help NNA more than you. i'm not sure that you can add your own custom fields and still use the issue manager to add the revisions... If NNA don't reply, emial me off line
  17. I understand that there is a free update from windoor 11 to windoor 12. I can't say if it will work with versions above 12.0.. i mean, who could tell what VectorWorks will be doing in the future... I?ve had windoor since VectorWorks was minicad... and I have upgraded it each time it?s always worth it.
  18. heath, you make these scripts yourself. Which version of VectorWorks are you using? I have a ?Hide object? tool that I have made if you want to emial me off line.
  19. my recommendation is to put all dimensions on design layers (not in the annotation portion of the viewports) except: - where the viewport is not in top/plan view - where you use a detail viewports from an overall section of the building
  20. when you use the associative dimensioning, you have to snap your mouse to a corner of the wall. Along the face of the wall is not enough, you have to snap onto a corner of the wall. The same applies to all other objects. It?s not enough to snap onto the edge of the object, you have to snap onto the corner of it.
  21. one suggestion is to finish a project in the version of VectorWorks that you started it in. So if this project was started in VectorWorks 8, then finish it in VectorWorks 8. Start all new projects in VectorWorks 12... however, if you must use this file in vw12, then import it layer by layer, until you find the thing that is causing the crash. Then delete if from the original file in vw8. Then import all the information into a new vw12 file.
  22. it?s typical to dimension to the structural component (part) of the wall. In your situation it would be wonderful to be able to turn off the other wall components and then dimension the structural components. If properly implemented it would allow for associative dimensioning, just as you want. Alas, we don?t have that yet in vw12, but we hope....
  23. you may be able to do this with a DXF file. Test this on a copy of your files first! Create a file with a few lines that use the dash styles that you want. Export it as a DXF file. Import this file DXF into the document you want... A DXF file brings dash styles with it and can over-write existing dash sytles...
