How to connect a lighting pipe to a truss?

Hi,

I'm a newbie on this forum, and a french man who's not good at speaking and reading english...

Thanks for your understanding!

Well, on my VW (french version), I would like to connect a lighting pipe to a truss, like this picture:

Lights are connected to the lighting pipe, but I don't know how to connect the lighting pipe to the truss.

I try with the Insert Truss, but it's not ok (for the moment).

Howewer, I can't see on the OIP the weight of the lights connected to the lighting pipe...

I'm sure my demand is not very clear, but to be simple,

what you can see on this drawing is what we'll be doing on site.

How to create this, with the right weight on the OIP for the hanging position (Truss + Lights + pipes)?

Many thanks for your time,

Best regards

Charlot

Hi Charlot

The Novelty group have a set of excellent Spotlight training video's in French that may also be useful to you, I added the link below

You can also contact our French Distributor Design Express France, who now have a very experienced Spotlight and Entertainment specialist on their staff.

Quite possibly Video of The Year right there. I usually have this one plus one of Jim’s Braceworks videos open at all times.

@Charlot start watching at ~30min mark for your original post. He then goes into a comparison of various methods of creating “lighting pipes” at ~34min. The most Braceworks-aware method seems to be a Truss version at ~39min.

@jcogdell there's a bit of a Konami Code with complex combinations of connections that I’d love to better understand. I’m currently dealing with speaker arrays that hang from a mother grid, so I’ve sort of figured out the order of operations for each side:

  1. Connect the speaker array bumper to the truss (mother grid)
  2. Connect the hoists to the speaker array bumper

Intuitively, that seems like the opposite procedure anyone would follow but it’s the only method I found to work. If there’s more documentation on how to properly attach secondary rigging objects (pipes, speaker array bumpers, LED hang bars, etc.) to truss, please share a link. Thanks!

Hi Everybody,

I GOT IT!!

To begin, the Mark Doubleday's video is really fantastic, and open a big way of possibilities... 😅😅

Thanks for sharing it!

So, I have built a big custom truss, with truss and ladder.

I modify the general weight on the Truss Record.

Then, convert to hanging position, and place the lights.

My problem was that only the lights at the bottom could be attached to the truss, so I use this plug-in 742117686_Capturedecran2020-12-14a19_34_00.thumb.png.dfe14a219f9ee6202b762c358d9d49b6.png

for the other lights, and it's running!

I have the correct geometry, the correct load...     1680243452_Capturedecran2020-12-14a19_34_43.thumb.png.84afb9628902db98648035ff4117c91d.png

I think it's ok!

Thanks for your time,

See you

Best,

Charlot

Hi everybody,

As a follow-up to this previous post, I would like to share with you some remarks:

the process previously explained causes the following issues:

  • this custom truss doesn't actually exist in real life
  • when I will create a worksheet for the rigg company, I will need to have the right reference of the truss, otherwise they can't find it
  • if I want to add other elements to this truss without ladder, it's not possible (because of the custom truss)
  • it generates issue to add hoist and sling to this custom truss, because of course the center of the symbol is not the center of the truss

So, I have changed the process.

I've created a ladder (without the Ladder Pipe tool, because I can't control the origin of the ladder with this tool), and converted it to a lighting device.

I have the same result (correct load), and the most important thing is that the truss remains a standard truss.

This way, the truss worksheet is accurate, and I can send it to the rigg company and the head rigger

What do you think about this solution? I hope it is useful!

Regards,

Charlot
