Mickey
I have so many problems with VW 2018. It's so frustrating. Here's my latest. I'm trying to create a simple report that counts symbols, and summarizes them. It's such a simple task, and it used to be so easy, but the new method does not work. Here's my initial report setup. Then I make sure I have my criteria correct. And this is what I get (note above image shows a different class, but it's from another report) Note the missing column of the summary total. Did I do something wrong? This is supposed to be easy. Quote Link to comment

Markvl
I think what you need @Mickeyis the function "=count". All you are asking for is the symbol name. The spread sheet is not smart. You need to tell it what you want to see. Let us know how it goes. Quote Link to comment

I find this extra step offensive since I clicked "summarize" in the initial setup then you think it would... well... SUMMARIZE. I finally figured out how to add "count" And Now I get a value of 1 So dear VW users I ask. WTF! There are far more than 1 of each light. Quote Link to comment
Markvl
@MickeyCan you in anyway make the file small enough or perhaps make a new file and dump a few symbols and your worksheet into it and post it here for any to have a look at? I understand it gets frustrating at times. There is an answer though. In cell B2 you simply put =count In cell A2 you want to "summarize items" right click while hovering over the small white box in the bottom right of the cell in cell B2 you want "sum values" Edited January 22, 2018 by Markvl Quote Link to comment
Mickey
Sure. Since I've stopped working to write yet another tech support request. Here's the file with everything stripped out except the lighting layer. The 2 reports I started are still in the file. The one pictured is named Count Supper. Let me know if you figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks -mickey Test_count_file.vwx Quote Link to comment

I created a new one, and got it to count correctly. Thank you for helping with that. Quote Link to comment
Markvl
Glad you got it working @Mickeyand glad I could be of help. Quote Link to comment
wwlighting
I have to agree with Mickey. This is unnecessarily complicated. I had to come here to figure out how to do it in 2018. I used to do it all the time before this version. Thanks for the info. Quote Link to comment
Tparabia
just worked this through and its very clumsy for what used to be so simple not a good development Quote Link to comment
Speedo44
Not sure the reasoning for making this feature more complicated then it needs to be. I'm tired of having to come to this forum for help on so many aspects of 2018. Quote Link to comment
