Wish List: Improve Object Snapping Options

yasin2ray

Question

There seems to be only one setting for Object Snapping, either it is on or off.

What about specific settings for:

snapping to an object's center but nowhere else

I want to place proposed streetlights of a new model on top of existing streetlights so they are replaced in the exact location. To place the new ones on the center of the old ones, I have to zoom in really close to match only the center, zoom out to find the next one, zoom in really close again to find only the center. This takes too much time. (and AutoCAD has settings for this.)

+1 more snapping controls and options!

Streetlight replacement en masse can be easily done with symbols:

Model an existing and a proposed streetlight as symbols with same insertion point and orientation.

•Place instances of existing streetlight symbol on drawing.

•Suggest put them on their own layer (not necessary, but may help w/ future edits)

•Select/Copy all instances.

•Paste In Place - suggest to a new layer (not necessary, but may help with future edits).

•With all these copies selected, use the Replace Symbol function in OIP.

•Pick the new streetlight symbol from the list.

True, re pallet choices. One can disable all except the Center Point in the object snap dialog. But that still allows for select/drag from other parts of the object.

That's powerful. But, I "think" the OP's wish is for exclusive selection at center point: Click anywhere on the object and the cursor automatically jumps to object center. Or?
