Catenary curve tool

How many things drape? Lots!

When a flexible something drapes from two fixed locations it forms a catenary curve. Not an arc or parabola or even anything easily defined by a bezier. An lets face it we drape wires and fabrics and things we wish looked like that all the time. This goes triple in the entertainment industry.

The math to create a catenary is way beyond me. So I'm hoping a computer is up to the challenge.

I think that Marionette would be perfect for a Catenary Curve Tool.

Each end of the curve would be individually defined by a 3D Node, and then you would specify the length and weight of the curve which defines the amount of sag.

Blender has a Python script tool exactly like this- would be great for Vw.

Bump. I can't believe VW doesn't have a catenary-curve tool in it.

 

There must be 100 uses for it for all kinds of design problems. Utility wires, zip lines, clothes lines, indoor & outdoor decorative swag lines/ropes/wires, rope barriers, indoor & outdoor hanging lights, rope & cable suspension bridges, etc.
