change dimension units per dimension

I need a way to switch between metric/inches/feet and inches on the fly in the dimension PIO. With today's world, all three are integrated into projects (find me an LED tile that isn't built metric, or a graphic house that doesn't measure in inches, or a carpenter that doesn't use feet and inches).

As a workaround, I posted a script that changes document units quickly.

Not as cool as switching the units per object, however.

Would adding the control to Dimension objects directly, or adding a Unit override setting to the Dimension Standard be more useful?

I would prefer a control at the pio level. That way I am just deviating from the standard on a per dimension level rather than creating a new standard.

Wouldn't the current Dual Dimensioning function meet your needs? so that both Metric and Imperial are shown on every dimension?

That way every subcontractor would have the same document, thus preventing you having to decide which measurement system to use for which sub's drawing.

But how do I show in one drawing things dimensioned in inches, and things in mm, and things in feet and inches? Dual dims don't do that. One must pick from the units in document setup.

You are correct Grant, you are limited to two units types.

Which seems odd since I can enter into the PIO any unit length I want and it will all work the same. So to my point, I could draw in a rectangle 54" x 108", a rectangle at 304mm x 304mm, and a recatangle at 1' x 2', but I cannot dimensions those units without changing my document unit preferences.
