Phil hunt
ps am i adding the attachment correctly ? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Attachment added correctly. Hard to tell from that picture, but I think it could be done with a solid addition of the seat and the sides and then filleting all the edges. mk Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
cheers this is the file so far, did it with a shape and then extruded added a few chamfers just can't get the tapered look quite right. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Just curious, have you looked through the Knoll Furniture resources? I seem to remember seeing something similar in there... Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
no peter but thats a great idea i can usually use a model but this is quite specific to the client as they have had this furniture purpose made for the job Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
had a look at knoll but just not quite there such a difficult chair to model could i convert mesh maybe or would that complicate the geometry to much ? Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Try searching Google warehouse for the make and model, you can import SketchUp files into VWs. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
could i convert mesh maybe or would that complicate the geometry to much ? I've had better luck using mesh models as references for modeling, rather than using the mesh models themselves. Mesh and 3D Polygon models tend to cause problems. Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted December 12, 2013 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 12, 2013 Something like this? Mostly just used taper face to get the angling right, kept a copy of the raw geometry before the fillet too just in case, since fillet loses edit history: Quote Link to comment
Bas Vellekoop
You can ungroup a fillet, right? Then you have your history back I thought? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted December 12, 2013 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 12, 2013 I just do duplicates as a habit so I can go back and forth and compare, but you're right, it can be ungrouped as well as a kind of undo action. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
Jim that's a great way to do this I guess a simple subtraction of shape over the main model would do this to get the seat area I'll give this a go but thanks so much for your advice and help Quote Link to comment
