Kizza
So I have a rectangle with a basic hatch fill. I want three of the four lines to be invisible and the fourth thick (0.35) How do I do this whilst maintaining the integrity of the shape? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
I'm not sure I understand your question. A graphic example would be helpful. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Draw a line on top of the rectangle, give it the line weigh you want, then group it with the rectangle. There's no way I know of to do this with just a rectangle. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
If you trace the rectangle with the polygon tool or the polyline tool you can create a shape that does what you need. Once you create the shape, double click on it to go into polygon/polyline reshape mode. Choose Hide or Show Edges Mode from the Mode Bar. Click on the centre of the sides you want to disappear. You can then add the hatch and delete your original rectangle. Kevin Edited January 11, 2012 by Kevin McAllister Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Try this Kizza: - Draw the Rectangle and make its attributes as you want them. - Convert the Rectangle to a Polygon. - Use the Hide Edge mode of the Reshape tool to hide those sides you don't want to see (what it actually does is converts those sides to a 0.00 pen thickness). Kizza
Thanks, both workarounds do the job. So if working with rectangles (easier for creating the shape at the correct size) then you could select the rectangle Modify>Convert>Covert to Polygons and then use the Hide or Show Edges to do the dirty work. An unnecessary extra step though... Quote Link to comment

Kizza
Now how would it work if you had say three sides of the rectangle 0.18 and the 4th 0.35 pen thickness? If you decompose you lose any hatching.. Quote Link to comment
bc
Wouldn't you just continue the same workaround and add the three .18 lines (or a single, unfilled polyline), same as you did with the .35? Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
Now how would it work if you had say three sides of the rectangle 0.18 and the 4th 0.35 pen thickness? If you decompose you lose any hatching.. Why would you have different pen thicknesses? The only reason I can think of is because that one side is from another kind of object and that means it is not part of the shape, so you should draw the two. Quote Link to comment
Kizza
An example: Drawing a roof sheet in section, the top of the rectangle would be in elevation the bottom would be in section. I want to investigate whether I could get the graphical control to do this without drawing object over object. Quote Link to comment
Kizza
Yep i could - but what we need is a graphical overide ability to be able to change the pen weight on the fly. I'm looking for similar functionality to the "filled region" tool in Revit. Similar capability doesn't exist in VW by the look of it. Quote Link to comment
