easy new document question

Upon start-up, is there a way to make VW 2011 always open a blank document that is formatted according to the "Architect" template instead of always opening up a new document that has the wrong (for me) scale ?

(I know i can do it myself .... I want it to happen automatically each time i start up.)

Open a new document, then set everything as you like, then "save as template". Next time you open a new file you template will be available in the pulldown list of new documents.

I think the saved template file needs to be named Default.sta and should be saved in the User folder under Libraries:Defaults:Templates:Default.sta.

when you Save As Template VW automatically saves it as a .sta file meaning you can have several of them for different purposes if you wish to

OK ... but I think maybe Pat has the right answer. I knew I could save templates, but my question was ... how do I get my template to open up AUTOMATICALLY every time I start the program (instead of the "standard" empty document)

I do not know if you can have your template file open when VW starts

Perhaps someone else does

In Vectorworks Preferences under the Session tab check the box Create a new document on startup. If you hover over it with your mouse it explains how to have a custom document open.

Now I understand what Pat meant with default.sta - did not know that

well .... now I've tried putting the "default" template in the templates folder and starting up ...... it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong ? Did anyone else try that and get it to start up with your designated template ?

(I tried it on both Windows and Mac versions VW2011 ... same result... no joy)

OK ... I just tried it for the third time ... third time is a charm.... it worked. The answer is to make sure you put your new template in the right file folder. Libraries>Defaults>templates>default.sta.

It's working for me. Did you put it in your user folder? You named it Default.sta?
