Curved roof?

What is the best wat to draw a curved roof?

I'm designing a cabin which uses a curved tree trunk as a ridge beam. The rafters will sit on the this ridge beam creating an arch down the middle of the building. Also two outside walls will start at 5'ht and end at 10'ht and 15'ht. I tried "interpolated surface" and I got the shape I wanted but I could not extrude it to create the 3d image and I could not extend wall to this surface. Any Ideas?

HI Jeharch.

Great question lots of ways to solve it. I'm wondering about the connection detail between the rafters & ridge beam. Assuming (falsely) that neither rafters nor beam have cross-sectinoal area and that the beam is straight in plan I would do the following - but taking account of the material thicknesses & soffit & gable overhangs etc.

In Front view, Draw a polyline representing the curved beam.

Move to height & Modify>Convert>Convert to nurbs

In Plan View - Draw two lines representing the paralell walls Modify>Convert>Convert to nurbs

In the OIP - edit Vertices - Cycle through the vertices and enter z values for each of the corners.

Switch to an isometric view

Draw a Nurbs curve (degree 1) from ridge to corner & repeat for other wall

Loft Tool>Birail Sweep (keep curves checked).

Select Ridge - Wall line - Rafter - click green check box

Repeat for other side

Plan view draw walls - set height to something small eg 2'

Select walls - AEC>Fit Walls to roof.
