Definetly in section view. It confuses me as to why a 'BIM' package would ever do this; in fact sections being changeable full stop!

Correct me if I'm wrong; but when you take a 3D section, it is then seperate from the model. surely one of the main pluses of working from a model is that when you make a change, all your views/ viewpoints will show update.

Why are sections seperate?!!

Which item are you referring to --- the "Cut 3d Section" or the "Create Section Viewport..." command?

I noticed your signature says Vectorworks fundamentals. that is the issue. Fundamentals does not the the Create Section Viewport... command, so when you cut a section, you are using the Cut 3D Section command which does not make a live section. it creates a static copy of the model.

I'm sorry, but if you want live sections, you have to upgrade to a designer series of Vectorworks (Architect, Landmark etc.)

Makes sense then!! Surely though, whatever you may be using a modeling/ CAD/ BIM package for, you'd like all views to link? Or is the reason it's left out to lower the price of fundamentals in comparison with the other specialised packages?

Obviously it's on our own head to find the cash to upgrade again, but it still aludes my why such a 'fundamental' (in my opinion) tool would be left out to save a few quid!!

Christiaan: I've followed your VW vs ArchiCAD comparison arguements with much interest; I work for 2 practises, one on VW and one on AC. From what I can tell VW is trying much more towards the BIM market (mainly with Architect of course), but it still seconds my point; if VW is that capable, and the 'engine' can support this very useful feature, why not leave it in? Don't mechanics/ Technicians/ and whoever else might use this base package for money reasons or otherwise need to cut sections; and have them still linked?

just a quick 2c...

Cheers!
