beanus
I've got an opening that extends from the ground floor to about a third of the way up the first floor how do you do this, I've tried making the opening higher than the ground floor wall but it doesn't break the first floor wall, can any one help? CipesDesign
This is possible, but a little tricky. The only way know of is to use "reshape" on both walls to actually create the opening in "real space". If you're familiar with "fit walls to roof" you could create some temporary extrudes to "fit to" and this will perhaps be easier. After creating the opening you can use a door (or window) which is placed (but not necessarily inserted) into the wall(s)... HTH's Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
I created a short Quicktime movie showing the use of the 3D reshape tool to "Notch" the walls around a window that needs to cross multiple walls. You can download the movie from the Vectortasks website. Pat Quote Link to comment
beanus
thanks for the replies, here's another question is there a way to make the viewports refresh automatically when you go into the sheet layers for example when I change something on the model layer & then go back to the sheet layer all the vieports need to be updated? Just watched the video, didnt realise you could do that, very useful, Ta Edited July 24, 2008 by beanus Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
No automatic way to refresh VP's. Must hit "Update" button. And wait... Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
There is not preference setting for this. If you are willing to use Saved Views and to manually attach a vectorscript to the view and willing to double click the Saved View twice, you can get it to work. Not the best, but possible. How about a script to update all the viewports instead. It is posted here: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showthreaded&Number=107202#Post107202 Pat Quote Link to comment
gmm18
But you need a script to update all viewports on the current sheet, otherwise updating all of the viewports in the whole file can take forever... Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
That is what the script in the link above does. Updates all of the viewports on the active sheet layer. Pat Quote Link to comment
beanus
what happens when the opening is arched? Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
If the window/door does not have a linear top/bottom, you are probably out of luck. The best solution would be to put the object into its own piece of wall and then notch around that rectangular wall. Pat Quote Link to comment
Ariel
Not sure if its already mentioned in the wishlist forum, but walls spanning multiple layers should be included in the next version. Seems very doable since the stair object already (somewhat) behaves this way. Quote Link to comment
beanus
thanks I'll try that Quote Link to comment
beanus
it works, thanks again, I must rember the 3d reshape tool. Quote Link to comment
beanus
sorry to be a pain, is it possible to stop a line showing on sections where walls meet on different levels for example between ground & first floor walls, see attachment Edited July 30, 2008 by beanus Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
In the Section Viewport, go to Advanced Section Properties, Attributes Tab. Select the Merged Cross Sections and you should get what you want. Or use only a fill and no lines for the Section Style class. Pat Quote Link to comment
beanus
nope cant get that to work I'm obviously doing something wrong, I'll keep trying Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
For that to work the top of walls below must be exactly coincident with the bottom of walls above... And even so, there are times when you must just bite the bullet and create a "mask" in the VP annotations. In fact, sometimes annotating is easier and faster, especially when you get to the end-game, and you're just trying to get the plans out the door... Quote Link to comment
beanus
installed this scipt on one machine & it works but when I installed it on another it didn't any ideas, it seems to go through the motions of updating as in the screen flashes & the green line line at the bottom left of the screen says rendering but the viewports arn't updated, any thoughts? Pat Stanford
Are you talking about the script I posted back on July 24? I don't know of any reason it should not run. What happens if you manually select all the viewports on the sheetlayer and click the Update button? Pat Quote Link to comment
beanus
yes thats the script. If I select the viewports & then click update, that works OK Edited August 7, 2008 by beanus Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
No idea. All the script does is select just the viewports and then step through and update each one. You might try adding a RedrawAll; on a new line just before the last end statement. Sorry, Pat Quote Link to comment
