jeffroyer
It seems that the stringer on a curved stair does not accurately follow the curve of the stair but rather is faceted. Particularly noticeable when creating a spiral stair with a closed stringer and attempting to render. I am missing a setting somewhere to remedy this problem? thanks Quote Link to comment
Travis
Try setting both your 2D and 3D conversion res to a higher option. They're on the Edit and 3D panes of the VW Preferences dialog. You might need to re-create the stair object with the higher setting to get all the benefit. Good luck, Quote Link to comment
jeffroyer
I gave that a shot but no luck. Other curved elements (walls) look great. I can see that the program draws a straight line from riser to riser regardless of the fact that the edge of the tread is shown as a curve. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted March 16, 2007 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 16, 2007 This is a render-settings problem. See the image below, which I think is what you are looking for. Go to the View:Rendering:Line Render Options Command. In the dialog that appears, set the "Smooting angle" to be greater than the angle between your stringer facets. (The image below has this set to 35 degrees): Quote Link to comment
mar schrammeyer
nice, this works also on straight stairs, were they ugly Quote Link to comment

mike m oz
Jeffroyer's problem remains though. The stair tread have curved ends on the inside and the outside edges. The stringers however are not curved - they are in straight line segments between risers. In most circumstances this does not match the required reality. Robert's tip for HLR gives a good result for linework views. If you render in Shaded Polygon, OpenGL or Renderworks though the facets are very obvious. Quote Link to comment
