Michael Siggers
Hi I am on the verge of giving up with Vectorworks. Too many stupid quirks. Attached is a screenshot which shows an imported DWG, referenced. Why can I not Snap to the point shown? It will only snap to objects/point on the Layer Plane at Ground Level. Spent an hour trying to sort this!!! I want to be able to draw a Steel section from the ground to this point. How damn hard can that be??? It will not snap to anything on the Gable End elevation unless it is at ground level. Kind regards Mike Quote Link to comment
line-weight
What type of object exactly are you trying to draw? If you are using a 2D tool it'll only draw on the layer plane unless you set a working plane, in which case it will be able to draw on that. If you are drawing a 3d object then you are not constrained in the same way. Quote Link to comment
Elite Exhibits
@Michael Siggers Try setting the object down then pick it up again. Draw, for example a rectangle, click the first point... Then set the second point down (anywhere) Pick that second point up again (Selection Tool) Now try to snap to the desired point See Attached Peter Second time Is the charm.mov Quote Link to comment

Hi @line-weight Trying to draw a steel column. I have since 'messed with the Reference file being used, and ungrouped the various elevations, and it seems to have helped. Mike Quote Link to comment

But you need suitable 3D Geometry to activate/create the Autoplane. In the screenshot it looks like only 2D. 3 hours ago, Michael Siggers said: I have since 'messed with the Reference file being used, and ungrouped the various elevations, and it seems to have helped. That is another hurdle but (if I got your first post right) not the issue here. Sometimes VW Snapping gets (or got in the past) problems with nested Objects. In the past it could sometimes happen with things likewhen in Edit Mode of a rotated or moved Extrude, References attached as DL Viewports (as proposed), Groups, ... Not always, but more risky anyway. The last thing I noted were IFC imports producing IFC Containers around each object, which made their content invisible for snapping. Quote Link to comment

Michael Siggers
I've come to the conclusion that I hate Vectorworks. Reverting back to Sketchup. So much more intuitive. Quote Link to comment
