CW2020
Why do some studios create saved views for each and every sheet layer? I happened upon this fairly frequently and am unclear as to the reasoning. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Are they attaching a script to the saved view? 1 Quote Link to comment
CW2020
No. And I've come across studios doing this several times over the years. I figured it was based on something in a much older version that I'm unaware of... honestly thinking it was my lack of understanding. Quote Link to comment
Popular Post Pat Stanford
Because someone likes using the Saved View Palette better than having to switch to the Sheet Layer tab of the Navigation Palette? Because someone likes being zoomed in on the Viewport rather than seeing the entire page including title block? Because someone has classes that they want to control the visibility of (outside of those in the viewport) when they switch to the sheet Layer? Because someone started using VW and Saved Views before Sheet Layers were added to the program and it is just what they are used to? Someone trying to train the boss and make it so they alway do the same thing to switch views? And probably another dozen or so reasons? 😉 8 Quote Link to comment
shorter
in the vague hope that one day, maybe, the saved view will be linked to viewports on sheet layers? 😉 happy new year! 2 Quote Link to comment
CW2020
Thanks for that detailed explanation, Pat! I figured there was a reason, but not necessarily 5+. A couple reasons actually aren't immediately clear, but I want to think on them before following up... I've no doubt they make sense. Happy New Year everyone! Quote Link to comment
CW2020
As a follow-up, I posted about this (in-part) because most of those who use Saved Views for Sheet Layers in my experience 'only' use them for Sheet Layers... and not for "working" views which is my standard use; including variations on floor plan views, elevation views, etc. I see lots of navigating to Sheet Layers and then clicking in-and-out of Viewports instead. Pat Stanford
In that case the reason is probably: They saw someone do it once and don't really understand why, but they were a smart person so I should probably be doing what they do. 😉 1 Quote Link to comment
CW2020
Too funny... closer to what I was thinking. Though I am absolutely going to put consideration into your possible reasons. Thanks! Edited January 1 by CW2020 Quote Link to comment
unearthed
To see a sheet at paper / print scale for the various printers I might print to. To maximise usuable screen space as VW has a lot of visual crap that reducing drawing space - Why oh why does VW not a have a fullscreen view?? To have a meta / info for me sheet that I don't want to send out - with some extra classes. 2 Quote Link to comment
