Push/Pull faces which are flush with a larger face

oliver.williams

Question

Hello,

When using the push pull tool in VW 2023, when there are two faces of two different objects overlapping, so on the same 2D plane. The push pull tool only highlights the largest of the two faces and i cant select the smaller one to push pull. I will use a photo for an example. This box section end (yellow square) i cannot select to extrude (push/pull) as it is flush with the larger edge of the box section (highlighted red).

Is there a way to select the yellow bit of box section without moving the larger red piece?

Many Thanks,

Not sure on Windows. If you are having no luck, then I have been able to send an object to the back in the object history by running the Send to Back command. That will do the trick.

The other thing you can do is place the object inside a group and then edit the group. The workflow would be ctrl G then ctrl +[ and you're inside the group and then editing is no problem.

I would have expected that pressing the ALT key would still only just select

a backface of the unwanted object in front (?)

Maybe that got improved.

But the (2D) bring to front command seemed more reasonable from my VW

experience. I had to use it in the past when VW had problems finding/selecting

push/pull objects in general, although these were not occluded.

Good to hear that both work.

I still miss the versatility and reliability of my Microstation fro 2004.

For Push Pull you first have to select the Object, accept and then you

could cycle through Face selection.

Some found this and other methods like "tentative" snapping cumbersome

but I loved the 100% control at the cost of a few cheap extra clicks.
