TallulahOrcel
Can anyone direct me to a decent looking cedar shingle siding hatch? VW22 has only a couple shoddy hatches for this purpose, and I am going nuts scouring the internet to find something decent with even courses and variable shingle width. Everything is shingled where I live and it is a pain not having a nice hatch to demonstrate this often-drawn detail. Thank you all for your help and direction! Quote Link to comment

Kevin K
As you know, shingles on walls can be laid out in slightly different configurations. Meaning they can slightly overlap, etc. Here are 2 shingle hatches that I often use. Not great, but better than nothing 🙂Note that you can change the line weights and overall scale, if need be. Popular Post Kevin K
Oh....one other thought. Not really sure if your intent was to apply shingle hatch on the walls of your 3d model.. And if so, would it mainly be to show grayscale elevations in your construction docs?? Anyway...if that is the case, instead of just doing the basic hatch on a hidden line image in a viewport on a sheet layer......you could set the viewport up to use a: -shaded version and uncheck the Color option -Put a directional light in that uses shadows -set the lighting intensity to around 75-80 -Use a sketch, hidden line option (the sketch setting is up to you of course) and by using the sketch option, those very straight lines in the hatch will sort of relax a bit , and by including a light you get a nice, subtle shadow on the images with sort of a hand-drawn line drawing look.. I think it is a nice look for inclusion in the plans you will submit for a permit, etc. 🙂 You will need to zoom in to the images to really see the actually effect. Sounds like a lot of setup, but really it takes about 2 minutes to set it up. Here is a screenshot , and the actual PDF is also attached. As I said...just a thought 🙂 Shingle Hatch Option.pdf 5 Quote Link to comment
TallulahOrcel
Thank you all! These have all been so helpful. I really hope VW incorporates some standard and half-believable shingle hatches into the default libraries one day. In the meantime, these are perfect. Thanks again for sharing! Quote Link to comment
