  1. Not just you Peter and not only Adobe . . . . .
  2. Why not a sort of CAD "Depth of Field" toggle option, so that when you need to pick a certain item, the objects nearest your current point of view(centre screen) are more solid/darker and thus more likely to fall under the "Selection Lottery Factor". Cancel the toggle to return to standard view. Yes i appreciate the code genies will have to work hard to get it to function, but . . . . .
  3. All good, but this just means they would still be leaving the users to find workarounds. Better if it just works perfectly out of the box.
  4. Agreed Chris, Folders and Tags are simply virtual representations of a filing system that can easily be improved through it directory. As for the rest it's all down to what many of us have been complaining about for years . . . . . REBUILD!
  5. Dieter, i think that most of us are getting REALLY tired of having to repeat this over and over again. 1: Drop the subscription fees.(until everything just works) 2: Fix all the dodgy components that still don't work and haven't for years. 3: Drop the empty "Sales Spin". Those that want VW will buy it regardless, you still can't beat "Word Of Mouth" as the best sales pitch money can't buy, although maybe now that won't help much either . . . . . 4: By all means rebuild the Chassis/Foundation from scratch, but please iron out all the wrinkles and make VW worthy of the title "CAD App"(program, software package, take your pick). 5: Get the basics right then you can add bells and whistles to your hearts content.
  6. i'd back Christiaan on the "Built In" VW store. Use the standardised Apple type installer wouldn't hurt either. so they're just there once installed. Only use the WS Editor to remove them if necessary . . . . .
  7. i don't know if this will be of much use, but if you need the degree symbol, on a Mac press keys "Option + 0" and you'll get N? or 12?. Windows should be "Alt + 0". BTW that's the Zero, "0" on the qwerty side of the keyboard not the Number Pad. If i have grasped the wrong end of the stick again . . . . Sorry. Andi
  8. What always annoys me with these "Novelties" is that, now that tablets are accessible, we still don't see them being made into cheap Cintique replacements. Leap offers another option, nothing really new, just another way of looking at it. If someone could just create a Translator i could plug into an iPad, Android or Windows Tablet that relays sketch input directly to desktops/laptops then Wacom would have to behave instead of oblige. i hope there is a flurry of similar input devices that causes everyone to rethink the connection paradigm. No matter how good this concept may be it will be sometime before the 3DMouse, Stylus, Keyboard combo can be beaten . . . . . . IMHO
  9. Forgive my intrusion, but this really gets me "Fired up"! That IS exactly what CAD is all about. Otherwise VW should not be allowed to call it's self a CAD app. What VW needs is for the Modeling Tools to be improved! The"LEGO brick attitude" is what is killing this product and why many of the once excellent tools are becoming more and more limited or lost. RJ Mullin(and others) have to sweat over VS to take the far from adequate OIP(for example) to get VW closer to what it should be. As i understand it, this is becoming more difficult for "plugin scripters" as VW proceeds . . . . . Most quality "PlugIn Providers" have been around for some time and unless they become disillusioned with VW or VS becomes unusable and choose to work with another CAD app due to it's failings, i think you'll find that the passion they've had til now for VW will remain. One clearly can't comment on more recent additions to the ranks . . . . VW The lesser of many evils!
  10. That's what you get when you mess with what works perfectly well for most other CAD packages. Adding a "Pointless" aspect to a working format is a waste of time for both it's users and the programmers! Vectorworks NEEDS fixing, not the way that we look at the virtual 3D CAD world.
  11. In that case, Agreed. Needs fixing. i couldn't get it to work so i just considered it another half bakeded aspect and threw it in the "Bad Planes Bin" and carried on working in 2D on the chosen view not 3D.
  12. Forgive my ignorance, but, Are we talking about 2D Objects in 3D space or 3D Solids here?
  13. +1 Agree TOTALLY with this one Christiaan. in 2008 or 2009 i think it was you still had the full edge trace shown when selecting Symbols, since 2010 it's become a Nightmare! Unfortunately "Grouping" causes it's own plethora of problems(Adding/Subtracting Solids) which both Martyn Horne and Alan Wright suggested i avoid. Maybe Grouping phenomenon has been fixed in 2012.
  14. +2 Yeah, i discovered FormZ's section tool, and it's a dream!
  15. Couldn't Agree more Brian. i LOATH it. i get by now after Mike's extensive explanations(Thanx Mike), but somethings just still don't work as they should.
  16. Don't think i've ever suffered that problem either.
  17. i've always used Multiple screens and like Dieter says if only for somewhere to dump the Tool Palettes it really makes life simpler. On top of that it also allows me to see data in other Apps that might be crucial to the project i'm working on without having to Tab through them all to reach what i'm after and if you need worksheets you can have a dedicated screen just for that or viewports or . . . . But detachable/tearoffs would be an excellent choice to include.
  18. Better still, if they'd just stop whitewashing the exterior to make VW look better and introducing new bits and pieces and instead just dedicate every last once of strength to getting what we already have to work, especially the longstanding 3D Tools that have never really worked correctly to their full capacity. All Extrusion Tools Loft Shell Etc. Etc. They may work a little but they ALL complain if you ask a little more of them. PLEASE Fix them.
  19. +1 This has long been a grievance of mine and i don't use renderworks, just "Plain Jane" VW and it still annoys me. Always has!! "Finger Twiddling" must be a full immersion pastime whilst waiting for a complete reRender in RW!
  20. yes, this would work for me . . . .
  21. Welcome to the Forum Chad. MD Tools? Bit of a Moot point i'm afraid. First of all, please fill in the Blanks. Edit your profile to include in your signature your Machine(Mac/Wintel box) System OS 9.0/X, Windows(plus version) and the combination of VW bits and versions(Vectorworks/Renderworks/Artlantis) so that those answering know which of each of the above they are addressing. Just makes things easier. Explain "Exactly" what you are trying to create, purpose, accuracy so that someone who uses VW for this can reply more precisely. Since Mechanical Design bit the dust back in v2010(i think) no advance or support exists for these functions. You have to make what you can of what you can get out of them. There are however still a few ex Mechanical Design users still lurking in the sidelines so maybe there is still some one around that can help. If you mean Bevel Gears, they should work. i have several models that use them with varying degrees of success. Spur Gears and Pinions still work Fine and you should not suffer too many Glitches with these. But most combinations have to be constructed manually, although some 2D/3D Hybrids DO work, depending what you need. Worm Gears are Ok, but can't speak from a great deal of experience. Chain and Spockets, Hhhmmmm, never had much luck with these, but you never know . . . . . Keep posting so that it keeps the thread active and attracts attention. Andrew
