  1. The data mapping was removed in 2020 because of the implementation of DMX patching and other features.

Since certain data is required to be in specific fields we could no longer support variable filed mapping.

Exporting to MVR and Vision have specific filed use requirements that are listed the documentation.

    Hey guys

Just to update, I have run Update Libraries within Vision and while running Vision as administrator in Windows and it is still missing.

    Cheers,

    Dan

    Dan,

Someone in the office was having the same problem this morning.

We tracked the issue down to having some extra folders inside of Vectorworks.

    Take a look in C:\Program Files\Vectorworks 2020\Vision\

If there is a Gobos and/or Library folder, delete them and launch Vectorworks.

Vectorworks should now use the same resources as Vision.

Let me know if this was your problem and we will do some more testing to figure out how those folders got into that location.

  3. @O.P.S. Take a look at the information here: DMX Connectivity Articles

The articles were written for earlier versions of Vision but the same information applies to the current version of Vision.

Because MA and HES have not updated their installers in a long time we heard of some users having issues after installing the drivers because they over-write some of Vision's newer files. So if after installing the drivers you still have issues run the Vision Application Updater and select the repair option.

  4. There is an error with the updater that causes this problem to happen when there are no updates needed.

If you see this message you can safely click cancel and  your libraries will be fine.

If there are updates to your libraries available you will see the normal progress bar and the libraries will be updated.

This should be fixed in the next service pack.

  5. Depending on which option you selected when creating the hanging position you either created the hanging position with geometry or a symbol.

If you created a symbol the OIP of the hanging position will display the symbol name. You can find the symbol in the resource manager, edit the symbol and delete the extra pieces of truss.

If you selected to use geometry when converting there will be a button on the OIP "Edit Position Geometry..." Clicking the button will take you into an edit mode where you can delete the other pieces of truss.

  6. The .wad file is a separate update. Even though the fixture symbols were updated the fixture mode may not have been added.

Depending on the fixture it may take more time to create the fixture mode.

Which fixture or fixture mode did you request?

Vision Service Select users are given priority support for creating new fixture modes, request from other users are completed in the order they are received.

Vectorworks olny ships a sampling of the GDTF files. You can download and create GDTF files from https://gdtf-share.com/

Vectorworks will read the fixture footprint information from the GDTF but Vision currently still requires the fixture mode in order to operate.

  8. The User Address and User Universe are the Address and Universe fields form 2019.

These fields will only exist in documents translated from 2019 and earlier.

Since the Address and Universe fields in 2020 are more restrictive as to what data can be stored in them we needed to preserve the old data in case it could not be translated to the new fields.

We try to convert the data into the new fields but sometimes it's not possible.

User Address and User Universe are not used by Spotlight, the fields are just used to preserve data from the prior versions.

All of the systems in Spotlight, DMX Patching etc., operate on the Address, Universe etc. fields.

  9. The record conflict would be from one of the textures, it could be a texture associated with any object you are trying to import.

Something in the record had changed between the 2 documents and Vectorworks can not automatically resolve the conflict.

It's strange to see this specific record conflict. Are you you using resources from a very old document or from a third party?

  10. @mharvey The previous educational watermark was inadequate and could be easily cropped out.

We found some users were abusing the educational version and making screen recordings and cropping out the watermark.

Because the purpose of Vision is to provide real time rendering on screen we could not just watermark prints and exports like Vectorworks we needed to always apply the watermark to the screen at all times.

During beta testing we made many adjustments to the watermark in order to make the watermark visible but not obtrusive.

Can you post a screenshot of your project? We found that the look of the watermark can vary depending on your settings and scene.

Support will remove the watermark from a particular number of student files, not sure on the number.  reach out to them to have this done.

Just like Vectorworks, support can remove the watermark from files when a student graduates and moves from a educational version to a professional version of Vision.

  12. You want to link the Absolute Address field only. You should set the Lightwright to use the Address (i.e. 1553) format and NOT the universe/address format (i.e. 3/18).

VW will update the other fields automatically based on the Absolute Address when it gets data from LW.

  13. @Mickey We work very closely with MA on a regular basis and they are given advanced beta copies of Vectorworks for development.

We encourage all third party plug-in developers to update their plug-in to be compatible with the advancements that Vectorworks makes and be ready to release updated plug-ins the day the new version of Vectorworks releases.

We have no control over the MA plug-in or any other third party plug-in.

Most advanced plug-in require updating require updating every version to work with the new release.

I would encourage you and others to reach out to MA support to request that the plug-in will be updated.

  14. @shodkin Take a look at "Additional default records"

    https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FSetup%2FSpotlight_preferences_Lighting_devices_Parameters_pane.htm

If you create a record with filed names matching a parameter of the lighting device (i.e. User Filed 1) and attach the record to the symbol, the lighting will copy these values into the lighting device when inserted.
