  1. I keep all roofs on their own layer, even if they relate to different floors, and move them in 3d to the right relative height (side view). If you put them on the floor layers they obscure the walls etc unless you move them to the back - better to put them on their own layer and use a dotted line to show eaves outline on the plan layer. Fit Walls to Roof works better if roofs are on their own layer.
  2. Do you have a class for each type of wall? Within that you can set up the way you want the wall to render. Then with each wall, under Render in the OIP, click Class Texture for right, centre, left and All, and the wall will render according to the textures you have nominated for that class.
  3. Pass. Best to start a new thread.
  4. This is not normal behaviour. You could try re-installing. VW12.0 was buggy - I think you can upgrade to VW12.5 for free - visit the Vectorworks download page. There may be problems trying to run VW12 on OS10.5. Have you recently upgraded?
  5. When you say "select all did not work" do you mean the OIP reads No Selection? Are the walls set with bot z set to 0? Are they 12'0" high, or are they 12' above the ground plane? Are they in a class that is visible in 3d, and does that class have a fill? What happens if you look at them from the side (deselect walls then reselect, then click 2, 4, 8, or 6)? If they disappear then as well, they have no height.
  6. Welcome to the forums. It would be helpful if you could compose a signature, so we can see what OS and VW version you are using.
  7. Welcome to the forums. In isometric view, try Edit>Select All - it could be that your walls are off the screen due to their height above the ground plane. It is also helpful if you could compose a signature, so we can see what OS and VW version you are using.
  8. I get this in the OIP sometimes - it's usually an old door or window, maybe from a previous version that I've carried over. Usually changing another parameter seems to refresh the whole object info and the parameter corrects itself.
  9. I don't think there is any way to change end caps. Maybe one day we will get the facility to wrap a component around an end, but don't hold your breath. The windows you have drawn are too wide for the walls. I can see you've tried to get the windows touching, but the walls are overlapping at the corners - I don't think you can achieve what you want with the supplied window tool. You could try joining the walls first, this may reduce the amount of wall showing. If you are going to be drawing lots of bay & corner windows, take a look at Windoor by Ozcad - it makes drawing them a breeze. http://www.ozcad.com.au/otherproducts/vwaddonsWD.html
  10. I have to say Superfinicky that I'm with gmm18. I'm not interested in registering my details before I see what you're offering, and small white text on a black background is unpleasant to try to read. Too much text, too many rules, not enough eye candy.
  11. OK, that sounds good - I'll try it. I was just going to slice the roof face into strips and make the edge lines show, but your method as you say is closer to real building.
  12. Maybe not just windows - there seems to be one at the base of the upper floor wall. They don't show in other views, even Views>Standard Views>Isometric? They may be something of minimum thickness, but must be opaque to cast a shadow.
  13. Nice model Peter - how did you model the pan roofing? Is that an extrude from the barge side of the roof face or the ridge/gutter? I find that using a texture like corrugated steel gets interference patterns in perspectives, so a pan roofing profile like you have drawn would be better.
  14. Jason You need to do a couple of things to help yourself. It is helpful if you can take the time to create a signature (see Ray's above) so we can see what system and VW version you are using. Second, email addresses for tech support can be found on the NNA website, or you can contact your UK supplier.
  15. M5d Not only risen, but practising architecture in the Bay of Islands ........ Paradise indeed - especially if you've got a boat.
  16. Check to see if you have 2 walls in the same place - Cut the one you're having trouble with, if there is still a wall there, you have duplicated the wall at some stage. If there is no wall, then you can Paste In Place to put it back.
  17. Create a simple roof over the main part of your house, ignoring the bits that the program has trouble with. Then ungroup the roof which will give you a series of Roof Faces which you can manipulate. You can for instance extend a roof face down to a lower level by double clicking it and adding surface to the eaves edge. You can copy and paste a roof face, then rotate it, move it to where you want and add or clip surfaces to make an extension to the base roof. Once you get the hang of how roofs can be designed, there is very little you can't do - Jonathan Pickup's manuals are highly recommended. It would also be useful if you could make a signature so that forum users can dovetail their remarks to your system and VW version.
  18. So it's still true what they say about Texas .............
  19. It may be a question of being careful what you wish for ...... I take it you mean text lines up on both the left and the right edges of a text block. This is fine on wide blocks of text, but you get very strange spacings between letters of long words in narrow blocks, unless you resort to word breaks. Fully justified text is harder to read than left, right or centre justified, like capitals are harder to read than lower case. I guess you could try to import text blocks as images, pdf's, etc, but I think fully justified text may be OK in specifications but just doesn't work well in drawings. Do you have some particular situation where fully justified text is required?
  20. Pat Thank you for your prompt reply. I've got 7 lines in plan that I want to make into a path so I get mitred corners, but they don't form a closed object because one wall is a gable, so Compose and Convert To Polygon don't work. I could do it straight piece by straight piece, but then how do I mitre cut the gutter extrusions? I get peculiar results with Connect/Combine - how do I use it to join 7 lines?
  21. I am trying to add a quadrant gutter to the eaves around a T plan house. The gutter is not continuous - the wall at the base of the T is a gable. I have made the gutter profile and filled it. I have drawn lines around the eaves where the gutter is to run, however, I can't seem to make these lines into an object that the program regards as a path. I can make straight runs with the profile by extruding it, but I can't get it to extrude along the path so it turns corners. How do I make the proper path that the Extrude Along Path will recognise?
  22. Simon I was having a similar problem with prints that were dark, and posted in the printing/plotting forum because I thought it was a printer problem, however "The answer is in View>Lighting> Set Layer Lighting Options. Boost ambient level, change to Daylight temperature instead of Mixed. I use Julian Carr's Heliodon sun program, but the VW sun tool is probably similar. I boosted the Sun Brightness as well which gives darker shadows, and suddenly the model is in bright sunshine." See if that helps.
  23. Welcome to the Techboards. You could start with this recent thread "Do I need Architect, and if so, why?" It also helps if you create a signature so that other users can see what your present setup is.
  24. The youtube movies are blurred, with no sound, and are quite incomprehensible. You seem to be having serious and unique problems - perhaps it's time to talk to your supplier or seek some training advice.
  25. If it is a Roof Face object, you just draw a rectangle/polygon over the hole, Copy it, then select the roof face and rectangle/polygon together and use Add Surface to fill in the hole. Then you Paste In Place to get your rectangle/polygon back, move it to where you want the new hole, hit Clip Surface, and voila, there it is. If it is a complete roof, you have to ungroup it to get to the roof faces as Tad says.
