This is a topic that has been discussed several times since the release of VW2008 and, to my experience, continues to be a problem. First some basics: All my files are VW12.5.2, many of which were converts from earlier versions of VW going back as far as MiniCAD 6 (a few even were originally drawn in ClarisCAD!). Until now all earlier iterations of the "Batch Convert" function proved reliable. In the past week I started to use the VW2008 batch convert command and immediately began having problems. Frequently it leaves whole lists of drawings untouched (even when in the same folder as the successfully converted ones) and forget about it looking beyond the first folder. I have checked for file names that might have offending characters. Generally saving the converted files to a separate folder as opposed to "convert in place" works better but in neither case will the "include subfolders" selection work consistently, if at all. And yes Petri, I have a 2 full backup of all my unconverted files on two separate hard drives. Is there something different I should be doing? Thanks in advance for any help. Bob

I have tried duplicating this problem without success (Hmm... that is success I guess). With or without grid restraint invoked, drawing 2D lines, walls, linear material tool, etc. with the shift key pressed keeps the wall/lines/etc. strictly along the x and y axes. Both while first drawing them and while subsequently editing. Perhaps more information is needed regarding settings used by those with the problem? I just started with my VW2008 upgrade so I frankly haven't used it for production work yet. That's my story and I'm staying with it. Bob

D Wood, I too had a similar problem. My approach presumes you can still run in the Classic environment, have Claris CAD Translator and a an early version of Vectorworks,(in my case) VW 7. I use CCT to create a pascal document that can then be opened and saved in VW7. The resulting document(s) can then be batch converted by VW 12.5.2 (or VW 2008 I presume). The process can be somewhat tedious since CCT can only work with 1 file at a time and it is finicky when it comes to long Claris CAD file names as well as multiple scales. As for me, I am deferring the move to VW2008/Leopard until the dust settles.

A minor addition to the previous examples: Draw a line using the polygon tool, apply an arrow and then observe that the line extends slightly past the arrowhead. With Zoom Line Thickness turned off the screen displays the arrow without the extended line; however a print will always show the extended line. (Hardware acceleration, vector caching and quartz imaging settings seem to have no effect). Bob MacOS10.4.10, VW12.5.2

Hello Sneeky Gekko, I too have noticed the same phenomenon on my 17" G4 PowerBook (screen resolution 1440 X 900) but apparently have not experienced any associated problems. Playing around drawing diagonals at different zoom settings leads me conclude that it happens pretty much random. Print-outs do not show the kink. Got me. I will not argue against the notion that I can be dense at times but what are the "certain circumstances" under which the wall cut is not correct? I have made several attempts at duplicating the problem as described but without success. Nor I have not come across the problem in the course of preparing my drawings. Thanks. The most accurate way is: After the inserted plug-in object is selected go to the Object Info Palette and select POSITION. You can enter precise values in the resulting menu. It can get tricky when the wall intersects other walls since the dimension off-set is measured from wall center lines. Hope this helps, Bob

Geez fellas, am I the only one? While I freely admit to having more important things to do... but when the startup time issue first appeared I ran a few tests and recorded start* times of around 60 to 70 seconds for a 2 MB file. (*Double-clicking the file to start VW). After updating to OS 10.4.9 the same file consistently opens in about 40 seconds. 20 seconds less time less time mesmerized by my Hubble desktop images. I came across the same message when I edited my workspace yesterday as well and have no idea why. MAC OS10.4.8 / VW12.5.1

Repairing permissions via Disk Utility has solved similar problems in the past. Good luck, Bob

I also noticed this with VW12.0.1 and it continues with 12.5. For me the normal VW icon is restored if you edit the name. Why? It's beyond me. ---------------------- PB17/G4/1GB/OS10.4.8 Bob

Yes, I was disappointed to find this as well. Easy to fix though: Go to TOOLS > WORKSPACE > WORKSPACE EDITOR. Click the MENU tab and open VIEW then LAYER OPTIONS in the righthand pane. Click on any one of the layer options, select the the appropriate key compination from the 4 options at the bottom of the pane (I use command + option)then type in the key sequence you want to apply. Repeat for the other layer options. Close and your done. Apologies if I've made it too basic! Bob

A word of warning: I used it with VW12.0.1 on my Mac and while it worked OK I noticed that it caused vertical dimension strings to behave oddly. With the door is selected have you checked the status of the "Break" drop-down menu in the Object Info Palette? Make sure that "full break without caps" or "full break with caps" is selected. Apologies if this is something you've already tried. Bob

I'm not sure if this is relevant, however I went through a similar problem yesterday. In my case I had used the Modify menu's "Scale Objects..." command during the drawing process and had neglected to uncheck the "Entire Drawing" box. Until I had figured this out my entire drawing including dimensions, notes, etc. where the wrong size though the dimensions still read the correctly. I hope this helps. Bob

Marr- My VW 12 upgrade disc set comprised 4 discs, one labeled Upgrade Companion. This disc contained a lengthy series of tutorials (much like SketchUp) covering many of VW's features. While not exhaustive I found it helpful. On VW website follow PRODUCTS > (select your application) > (select FEATURE DEMOS). You can download a variety of tutorials this way. Hope this helps. Bob

I've been having difficulty getting a simple door symbol to behave correctly. Example: Start with a new document created in VW12.0.1. At a plan scale of 1/4" start with a plain wall drawn at .50 line weight, say 4 3/4" thick. With the door PIO create a simple swing door with 2 1/2" X 1/2" inside and outside trim (the size really doesn't matter) and select "use wall thickness". Insert it in the wall and it behaves as expected and changing line weights via settings>line styles show correctly with the heavier line weight tracing the outside face of the jamb/trim assembly. Now duplicate the door PIO and change the door into a symbol. When inserted into the wall the symbol is rotated 90? to the wall. If I edit the symbol by changing the x,y & z coordinates at the top of the Object Info Palette to "0" then the symbol will insert correctly. BUT the "use wall thickness" function seems now to be ineffective since the trim does not now lie on the ouside face of the wall. By unchecking the "use wall thickness" and changing the jamb width to match the wall thickness the door symbol will insert correctly but only for walls of the same thickness. Furthermore the line weight of the jamb/trim assembly is screwed up with the heavier line weight following the inside face of the trim, not the outside face as expected. Sort of defeats the purpose of a symbol in my mind. Am I missing somthing really basic or is this a known bug? Thanks! Bob Gyori RGA San Francisco OS10.4.5/VW12.0.1

One point: The operative word in the VW Press Release is "will". Does this mean that support for Intel Mac's is still off in the future? If so, when will it be in fact available? Onward! Bob

An additional item to check: in the print dialog box, navigate the drop-down menu to "Vectorworks" and make sure your "application print resolution" is set at 360 dpi (preferred). Good luck! Bob

I've been using a 17" G4 PB for over 2 years now and find the larger screen is definitely worth the expense and effort. I use it for all my work, both 2d and 3d. I carry it daily between work and home, though I did purchase two trackballs, one for home and one at the office, so I could avoid using the trackpad when working VW. Bob

In my continuing effort to give truth to the old saying, "There's no such thing as a stupid question"... Using the VW 11.5 door PIO I have applied one of the standard wood textures to the door via the classes dialog (say, Style 2 in this case). When rendered (Final Quality Renderworks) the grain is running horizontaly rather than the preferred vertically, however I am unable to access any means to change the texture mapping. I have tried using the OI palette but there is no mapping option available under the Rendering tab. I have tried using the Attrubute Mapping Tool also to no avail. Am I missing something obvious?
