  1. It would be handy to have a setting for a viewport (or the sheet layer) to print black and white only, while allowing me to work in color on the design layers. I know I can do this with workgroup referencing, but sometimes I like to avoid having additional files just for printing.
  2. I would like to workgroup referrence 5 layers of my master to a new file. I can set up the reference OK. When I try to update the reference, though, VW "unexpectedly quits." This happens whether I'm already in the file and update manually, or whether I open the file and VW tries to update automatically. It's not an excessively large drawing -- we've done this many times in previous versions of VW. VW11.0.1 OS10.3.4
  3. My first suggestion is to go to the "view" menu. Are you in "Top" view, or in "Top/plan" view? I think that when you cut a 3D section, your model goes to "Top" view. But you need to be in "Top/Plan" view for your 2D stuff like door swings to be visible.
  4. What you want to do is create a new layer, and copy all your notes, etc. onto that layer. If the layer is above the referenced layer, you'll see all your info.
  5. But be careful -- you can't print overlay transparency with a postscript print driver.
  6. We have a file which had been started on a Mac, then worked on from a PC. Some objects will not print from Windows, but will print from Macs. The thing I can find that the non-printing objects have in common is that they have records. The file was started with all walls drawn using the "wall tool". It was then worked on from a PC, with walls drawn using the "wall type tool". All the walls drawn on the PC will not print from Windows. They will print correctly from macs, though. They have records. Room names (with records) don't print from Windows, either. Both machines are running VW11. Plotting to an HP800PS. We've never run into this before. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  7. Thanks, Jim. Very cool new feature! I'd second Peter's request for "down" stair breaks, too. Kristen
  8. In VW11, if you have a straight stair, the 2D stair break shows up at the second step, no matter how long the run is. We have some files imported from VW10 where the stair break seems to be in about the center of the stair. I like this better, but they keep changing length to the VW11 standard. Is there some way around this?
  9. I pasted some objects into a drawing in which their class was turned off. I wanted to undo that action immediately, and when I hit undo, the the menu bar said "Undo: Paste". However, when I turned the invisible class on, the pasted objects were still there.
  10. If you have any image editing program (PhotoShop, etc.), you can at least shortcut the trial-and-error scaling. For example, if you want a 24x36 poster in your model, go into Photoshop and scale your source image to be 2"x3". Then you can bring the image into VW and scale it by a factor of 12.
  11. I think you're right -- I'm not able to select multiple objects in walls either. Custom selection is useful in a limited way. I like to use Custom Selection 2 to track down mystery objects on the schedule. You can search for objects with a specific field value, and while you won't end up with the exact object selected, you will get the wall that the object is in. Usually once I know which wall to look in it doesn't take too long to locate the unwanted object. Kristen
  12. The entire dimension string ends up nowhere near the object. It's very strange -- everything else in the drawing exports as you'd expect it to. Thanks, Katie. Kristen
  13. I'm learning how to use these viewports -- they seem like they have a lot of potential. I'm having a few problems with them, though. Our office ACAD expert prefers that all notes & dimensions be done in the design layer, but when I export the drawing to ACAD, the dimensions get displaced. They only stay in place if I draw them in Viewport Annotation mode. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Kristen
  14. In previous versions of VW, our office saved one file with the title block for all drawings, then workgroup referenced that file to all other drawing files. Is there any way to make this setup work in VW11 using Sheet layers? I'm just familiarizing myself with this new version, and it looks like it's impossible to reference a Sheet layer? Kristen
  15. We typically set up a master file with a layer for each floor of the building. All components of each floor are set up with classes. For example, some typical classes for us are N-Wall, N-Door, N-Window (N- standing for new); D-Wall, etc. (D- for demo); various RCP- classes. We save sheets for demo classes, new classes, and RCP classes (with save view turned off). We move from floor to floor by changing the active layer. For a large project, drawings are each their own file, workgroup referenced from the master file and a title block file and used primarily for printing only. For a small project, each drawing might be a sheet set up within the master. Hope this helps! Kristen
  16. Yes, there is something similar called "Workgroup Referencing". It is under the "Organize" menu.
  17. It's not a single step tool, but it's just 2 steps: you can use Organize>Custom Selection 2 to find and select all instances of a symbol (as long as it's not inserted in a wall). You can then replace them all from the Object Info palette "replace" button.
  18. Why not change the texture itself, rather than the mapping? You can also use class settings for texture, and change the texture for all items in a class by changing the class attributes, rather than selecting and editing each object. Another technique I've used is to have a generic texture called, for example "roof". Then I'll have a series of other textures ("standing seam", "shingle", "tile", etc.) I can edit the texture "roof" and import the image from any of the other textures. Not sure how this would work with shaders, etc., but it's great for image based textures. Also, if you're using many copies of the same object, why not make it a symbol? Editing the symbol would change all your objects at once. Kristen [ 04-02-2004, 04:18 PM: Message edited by: Kristen ]
  19. You can select multiple symbols and use the "Replace" button on the OIP to replace them all. Or are you trying to do something differrent? Kristen

  21. The only times I've had this happen are in the instance Dave suggested - when the layer is linked twice, or when the object itself is duplicated on top of itself. If it's happening on all surfaces, my bet would be on the layer link duplication. If that's not it, I don't know what might cause it.
  22. I've been having a similar problem. My revision cloud tool sometimes just won't work. It'll just show the polygon, instead of converting it to a "bubble". Restarting VW usually gets it working again. I'm just using the regular Architect workspace. VW 10.5.1 OS 10.2.6
  23. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that having "Adjust Flipped Text" on *causes* text to export flipped. I think that you just can't see which text is flipped until you export it. I try to check text with "Adjust Flipped Text" off before exporting.
  24. "Bumping" is adding a reply to a thread in order to "bump" it to the top of the list, so that someone might see it.
  25. Did you have "Adjust flipped text" turned on in Vectorworks preferences when you originally worked on the drawing, and then turn it off before you looked at it again? I've made the mistake of rotating notes with "Adjust flipped text" on, and then printing them with it off. I've never experienced them spontaneously flipping, but adjust flipped text should make them look right. Sometimes if you switch the orientation back and forth from right to left the callout note will correct itself, but that's pretty tedious. I hardly ever use callout notes anymore, mainly because of this. [ 03-23-2004, 04:23 PM: Message edited by: Kristen ]
