  1. I gave it a quick whirl and for me it was a matter of which side of 90 degrees I was on. If I pointed to the right the line always went to the describe length and angle. 330 degrees. In the OIP the directional arrow is down and right But if I pointed the cursor to the left of 90 I always got the opposite. 150 degrees. In the OIP the directional arrow is up and left.
  2. Zoomer you are on to something that I had hoped there might be though where I was thinking was being able to customize the field names under the data tabs in doors and windows as other fields within the plug-in are not illustrating things to my liking. It is I'm assuming a kind of built in "record" but can't be changed in some other system folder. Right now I've got info in the data tab under the "user Field #" portion and I've got to periodically check another hard copy of those fields what the info I placed there refers to.
  3. Wes is correct. I've just learned to do this 'red symbol'. Place a door, or window for that matter, make it look like you want it with all your settings in place then create a symbol of it but check on "convert to plug-in-object". Your window and door will appear in the RB like any other symbol but it's description will be red not black. The great thing is that once you place the door or window into a wall it is no longer a symbol but a door or window like the one you originally made the symbol from. I'm learning how to get more out VW and I'm liking what it can do. There are a few bumps of course but still making it work.
  4. Another thing I'm trying to do is get a window that is used several times in a plan to show its total count in my quantity row without the worksheet making a row for every window regardless of similarity. I've tried using the sum feature that you drag into the row but I'm getting unwanted results (meaning its collapsing most of the worksheet). The column in the data row is simply using the function "=count" Help.
  5. Justs found all the function codes for Doors and Windows in the knowledge base. http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1089/Worksheet+Functions+-+Doors
  6. Are we able to show data in the worksheets/reports for info we place in the "User Field 1-10" fields? I can't seem to do that. For instance I can us this function =(Window.Accessories) for what ever info I place in the "Accessories" field but it won't show info that I place using this function =(Window.UserField1) in the "User Field 1" field. Is there something I'm missing within the function? Thanks.
  7. I'm slowly but surely building my own stair models to put in our construction plans. There are some pros and there are some cons too but I figure, once I've got a stair model done, I always have it and its tweakable. As for your pics digitalmechanics, you'd need some serious nurbs curves to do that. LOL They don't build them like they use to and codes don't allow for those old stair designs, short treads, railings and all. But wouldn't it be amazing if you could push, pull and bend a stair design kinda like a subdivision object. So imagine you start with a straight flight of stairs with your min. and max. established but then be able to change the shape? The stair tools needs a good overhaul.
  8. Thanks Wes. I tried that out. Very easy and quick. Thanks Tim. I will look into that as well.
  9. Was wondering how everyone turns their floor plans from construction plans to blacklines for presentation purposes.
  10. I've been using a Logitech MX500 and M510 for sometime now and always go those when I need a new one. They are comfortable, easy to use, reliable and not hard on the pocket book.
  11. joerg, It is the 'Y' key unless you've customized it to something else. Check out this link. VW Knowledge Base
  12. I've been noticing some crashes as well (unexplained though). To many really. I'll have to keep a closer eye on things (document them) and save often.
  13. +1 Totally makes sense. I was thinking of this myself the other day, that whether you import or make a new class, that you have the ability to activate that very class. Definitely to many clicks as it is now.
  14. Not to knock what is said above as yes we need some UV mapping techniques for VW. Sean O'Skea has just released a new youtube video that to those who are newer to VW may find helpful in applying textures to your various objects. Youtube
  15. Just gotta say, thanks VW for ambient occlusion! Love it.
  16. Check out this youtube video that will show you how to add an opening into two walls.
  17. This use to be the case with selecting a wall (and not from the OIP). But now VW2016 has a much better setup that allows for easier navigation in the current document and in your personal setup. VW still has little things here and there that are not consistent in design which can throw your work flow out of whack if but for a few seconds.
  18. Is the issue in VW16 or Vw15? I had this issue in VW16. What you have to do is go into the workspace editor and essentially reselect the renderworks camera from the selection set and move it over to the visualization set and remove the original one. It will work then. Others have had the same trouble. You should be able to find those forum threads as they are new because of the release of VW16. Cheers.
  19. Thanks for the help Wes. I managed to get it working and indeed it had to do with removing and adding frames and making panels "open" as you mentioned. Didn't think of making the "system" a symbol. That would make it a whole lot easier. In my pic attached I still have the two walls on separate layers. But now setting up as a symbol will make layering easier. I will try the symbol method next. Thanks again.
  20. I need some help. I've been poking around today with using curtain walls, seeing what I can do with it and how I could use it in some of the projects I may work on. In the pic attached. I've got a stud wall with brick veneer (14" high) on 1 layer and I've got a curtain wall (7'-10" high) above on another layer. I've also inserted a door (for a curtain wall) but you'll see that I want that door to move down 14". It won't. I've used the reshape tool to make the opening in the brick wall to receive the door. I tried the same method on the curtain wall with odd results but still not able to drop the door. Would anybody out there know how I might make this work, or what to do to show it the way I want to? Thanks, Mark
  21. Update. The script appears to only work on windows that are not symbols. Not fun. I'll have to go through all my window symbols and re-insert them in the existing files to fix this.
  22. This is what I've got. You'll see in the pic that the left sash is a casement but hinged on the wrong side and the far right side is a double hung but should be a right hinged casement. I ran the script as per the instructions but nothing changed. I opened the sympbol and ran the script with still no change. I saved the drawing, closed it and reopened it with no change and ran the script again with no change.
