  1. Thanks. The only problem with creating extra design layers is that there will then be very many design layers to handle. I'm still wondering why the back/front order is changing by itself - I don't think it should behave as it does. I mean, I'm not touching the walls or stairs and yet they jump to front. I'm not touching my lines either. It is as if there was some hidden control determining the order of appearance. What's the point of having the back/front control it if it doesn't work reliably...?
  2. User origin set was control+9 at least in 2017. I guess cmd+9 in Mac.
  3. ^^ Exactly. We MUST be able to import an empty client DWG with client's own class (Autocad layer) system. This is absolutely critical! Please fix this ASAP.
  4. Hi, I'm encountering the following issue: Drawing elements (lines, polylines, text etc) won't stay in front of walls and stairs. They always eventually go behind them "automatically". Sending them to front remedies the situation for some time. After a week of working or so the lines are again behind the walls. Everything is drawn on layer plane on the same design layer. This is a nuisance since eg. my fire compartment markings will become hidden. It's especially annoying if one doesn't notice this when issuing drawings. Is there a control somewhere I'm not aware of that would remedy the situation?
  5. Hi, There is maddening default setting in the title block editing window : When adding revisions to a sheet, the default setting is add to "All active sheets"! WHY not "this sheet only" by default? I've ended up adding wrong revisions to dozens of sheets and then having to pick them off one by one. And, for some reason, the title block doesn't update until one double clicks it - meaning the accidentally added revision is not visible, if you don't edit the title block.
  6. I can't get VW to work with a 4k + 1900x1200 setup. Palettes go wherever they want and don't work on the 2nd screen at all, the jump back. All positions are lost on re-open. Removing the 4k from the equation and replacing it with an ordinary screen solves the problems. A Windows 10 machine. As with Jnr, other software behaves just fine.
  7. Thanks, I have Nitro Pro in which I guess I can do the same. I was hoping there was a solution within VW...if there isn't, maybe the smart way is to convert the pdf to bw before importing it to VW.
  8. Hi, I can't find a solution to the following: I have a colour pdf from a client that I need to display on a sheet layer. However, I need to publish to b/w for council approval. None of the controls seem to have any effect on the outcome; the viewport is set to b/w, publish is set to b/w but the resulting pdf still is in colour. The rest of the pdf with VW graphics is b/w as it should be. What am I not noticing?
  9. Oversight. AFAIK it's not possible to make a glass side leaf using the standard settings. It's pretty unbelieveable that it is so. Like the programmer had never used a door. Custom leaf geometry is a workaround, although not scalable really. At least not like in real life. Maybe there is a suitable door object in one of the libraries. Hullo NNA...time to finally redo the door and window tools? Please.
  10. We had perfect functionality with the old customized title block. As mentioned here before, we could make dummy title blocks for specialist documents we wanted to include in our drawing list. Currently the only way to do this (to my knowledge) is to create several dummy sheets each with their own title blocks. We also noticed odd behavior that changing a drawing number on the worksheet doesn't update it to the new sheet border unless we double click the sheet border. Now we don't know for sure if the worksheet changes propagate to the actual sheet borders unless we open each of them and check. I've had trouble importing the sheet border style to other vwx files as well. I'm probably doing something wrong, but previously it was a simple copy-paste operation. Editing the new sheet border is really confusing. People in the office have been a bit baffled about the reason for the change.
  11. Talking to myself here, heh, but here goes: I was able to remedy the situation by changing the rendering mode to "by object" and then selecting the side I want to display the hatch. This however is laborous and does not explain why the component option is not working. I was working before. This is not the only file with the same problem.
  12. VW is not slow in 3D or 2D in general, in my opinion. It's slow when it comes to the tools and their settings. Opening a space tool dialog takes ages, railing tool makes you take a nap and the stair tool sends you to the geriatric department. Just to name a few. It doesn't utilise all cores I suspect since I only see 12.5% cpu utilisation rate. One would think that complex 2d or 3d zooming etc would be a difficult task, but no, it's some of the simple tools that calculate....something. Room for code improvement?
  13. There might be a shortcut key that is accidentally pressed. Have a look in the workspace editor and remove the shortcut. Another thing is to set the origin options so that is the "disable dragging...etc" is ticked. This was in one of the menus, I'm not currently at my VW desk. Another culprit might be dwg import with settings that move the user origin. Or, the reason is project sharing as you suspect. It's a bag of bugs, although it has graduated from alpha to preliminary beta I guess. We get messed up files only fortnightly nowadays, yay! Many errors in between, though. Like gigantic, spontaneous text size changes.
  14. Update: Now the options reappeared, but alas, they have no effect on the position of the surface hatch.
  15. Hi all, I'm encountering the following: The options for textures intermittently disappear from walls. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. There have been no changes made to the wall style. As I mentioned in a previous post, there is an issue with the world z not affecting the surface hatch, as well. Any ideas?
  16. On my darkest moments I'm seriously considering switching over to...a program with better stair tool.
  17. Ok, now I get it: You need to define the main criteria in the header row, please see screenshot: Right click on the header row (number 2 in my screenshot), thus you get to enter the search criteria. Limiting the schedule to 1st floor windows goes like this: layer - is - yourfirstfloorname, and so on. Field values are handy but if you can use only layers as criteria, all the better.
  18. Hi, I'm encountering zoom issues with a floating viewport. Previously this worked fine. Please see attached. I can't see my grade objects unless I zoom way back.
  19. Enclosed is a screenshot, you can use field value, location etc. to limit the amount of data in a spreadsheet.
  20. @mike-h: Using limiting criteria (room number, record field etc) does enable one to "limit" the worksheet to a single page. In other words, each worksheet contains so little information that it fits on one sheet. Where this might be problematic is that if you want to change the actual worksheet arrangement, you have to change 20 different worksheet if you have 20 sheet layers. I used the viewport method in a couple of projects but in the end it was too difficult to keep track when changes occurred.
  21. Hi, I wonder what I'm doing wrong: I have two walls on different design layers with different elevations/heights. Previously, surface hatches have aligned nicely if "use world z for origin" has been checked. Now, it doesn't have any effect on the hatch. What might be overriding the setting?
  22. Thanks, I do use criteria to divide the worksheet into parts. However, one ends up with multiple worksheets. The viewport method works but the problem there is that an additional worksheet item on the 1st sheet pushes the rows down on other worksheets as well. This can be a problem with revisioning, since it's not easy to notice, and changing the amount of data on one sheet changes all sheets that come after it as well. Some other software packages are able to create a set of a4's for door elevations, for example. I guess a VW implementation would be a set of sheet layers or "sub sheet layers". Maybe this functionality is not easy to implement due to the way VW sheet layers are set up.
  23. I've searched for this functionality, too. I guess one can't? A wishlist item?
  24. If I change something about a stair, I get weird ghost shapes on the 2nd floor, and sometimes two representations of stairs on the 1st floor. The tool is unusable as it is. Generally, something seem to be broken with 2018 graphics. Strange orange artefacts and disappearing and reappearing objects. These issues seem to occur cross-platform, so it must be the main program.
  25. The current stair tool is mentally ill. There is no other way to describe it.
