Total number of sheets = 0

I have a total number of sheets in my titleblock layout. For some reason it remains zero, even if I have a bunch of sheet layers.

The Sheet Data.Sheet Number works fine.

 

Not sure when it started happening, it was not always so. Here is an example in a document with 5 sheet layers.

Have the Title Blocks been set to Active?

Yes they are active. All the other linked values work fine.

The problem was that "Use total number of active title block borders" was not selected in Project Data, causing the Total Number of Sheets to be not automatically calculated but manually inputted. Selecting this option fixes the problem.
