Bruce Kieffer
Vectorworks 2020. How do I create a worksheet to count the total quantities of each symbol I have in my drawing? Also, how do I create a worksheet to tell me the total linear feet of X dia. class identified pipe I have in my drawing? Quote Link to comment
Boh
Hi Bruce. First question I can help with - see vid: Second question I'm not sure. What sort of object are the pipes? Simple extrudes? We would need to know the object type and there should be some function of it that relates to it's length (hopefully). 2020-03-28 12-45-15.mp4 2 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Boh, that is very helpful.Thanks. I made two worksheets, one that shows the count of all symbols (Symbol Count), and the other that shows the count of a few symbols (Symbol Count 2). How do I edit the criteria and add more symbol counts to the second worksheet (Symbol Count 2)? Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
As for the cumulative pipe length. My pipes are simple circle extrusions. Quote Link to comment
Boh
Hi Wes. Glad that was helpful. To add more criteria right click on the data base row header and click edit criteria. For the downpipe worksheet it is just the same process as for the symbol count worksheets except instead if selecting "Symbol" as the criteria select "Extrude" and for the columns instead of selecting "Count" and "Symbol Name" functions select "Length". If you want to list the DP's and their respective lengths then you will need an identifier for each downpipe. One simple way to do this (there are various ways) is by simply selecting a downpipe and at the bottom of the OIP type in a name for the object such as "DP1". Then as well as selecting "Length" for your worksheet columns also select the "Name" function. The name I think has to be a unique name for that object that is not otherwise present in the file. Edit: Note also Wes that you can add additional data base rows to existing worksheets so all your symbol count lists could be in the same worksheet. You can do this either by right clicking on a row header and turn it into a database row and then from there right click on it again and edit criteria. Alternatively at the bottom of the "Create Report" dialogue there is an option to append a new report to an extg worksheet. Edited March 28, 2020 by Boh Quote Link to comment

mpalin1943
Hello I drawing up 2 different plans but in the same workspace but each on its own design layer. They are same objects but in a different configuration basically. Is there a way to reference the symbol count only to a specific design layer? Currently when I do a symbol count it counts all the symbols in the entire drawing and not the layer I'm working on. As in I know 1 designer has 24 symbols and the other has 46 and it is giving me the total of 70, but I want to be able to have the worksheet on sheet layer show only 24 on one plan and 36 on the other. Does that make sense? Quote Link to comment
Boh
Right click on data base row header, select edit criteria, add an extra criteria to limit count to selected design layer or add an additional column with =L as the formula. Summarise by this column and it will count symbols in each layer Quote Link to comment
mpalin1943
thanks! will try that shortly! Quote Link to comment
Boh
For Option 1 you will get a count of only 1 design layer. So you either need to make separate worksheets to count in other dls or have additional data base rows in the same worksheet for each dl you want to count in. i.e. Option 2 might be better depending on what you need to do. Pat Stanford
Another option, especially if you are SUMmarizing objects would be to add a column with a formula of =L which will give you the Layer Name. You could then use that as part of the SUMmarization to separate the objects on different layers. Both ways can work. It just depends on what you need to do. Quote Link to comment
Boh
@Pat StanfordNice to know I give the same advice as the experts! 8 hours ago, Boh said: Right click on data base row header, select edit criteria, add an extra criteria to limit count to selected design layer or add an additional column with =L as the formula. Pat Stanford
@Boh I missed your post on =L somehow. Sorry about that ;-) 1 Quote Link to comment

I tested the =L formula and it works. That is interesting. Is there a reference list of worksheet formulas somewhere? Quote Link to comment
Boh
=L is one of the 3 worksheet formulas I know by heart. The other being =C (class) and =Count (quantity). For some bedside reading here is the full list: https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2019/eng/VW2019_Guide/Worksheets/Worksheet_Functions.htm#XREF_16089_Worksheet_Functions 1 Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Probably the best list would be the list of possible Criteria would be. https://developer.vectorworks.net/index.php/VS:Search_Criteria#Search_Criteria_Tables The actual worksheet functions are on the page @Boh listed. Not all of the criteria will work or make sense =L for Layer and =C for Class are probably the most useful. 2 Quote Link to comment
Nick Pecher
Does anyone know how to "combine" the count for multiple instances of the same symbol? Ideally, I'd like to see a count of (7) Can Lights instead of (1) (1) (1) (1) (1) (1) (1). Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Make sure the formula in cell A2 is =COUNT Click on the Disclosure triangle in column B2 and select SUMmarize Items. All of the objects with identical values in Column B will collapse to a single subrow and Column A will give you the count of the items that are collapsed into the single row. You will get a Sigma symbol showing in the disclosure triangle box so you know that column has been SUMmarized. HTH 1 Quote Link to comment
Nick Pecher
Hey Pat, that worked! Thank you very much 🙂 Quote Link to comment
