Bruce Kieffer
Aside from duplicating an object and placing it on multiple layers, is there a way to have one object on multiple layers? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted November 14, 2019 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 14, 2019 Hi Bruce, no, an object can only reside on one layer and be a member of one class. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I would say the solution here is to use a symbol, which essentially acts as one object but can appear on multiple layers. Editing the symbol updates it everywhere. I use this all the time. Kevin 3 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Good idea Kevin. Is there a way to "lock" a location to a symbol? So if I move it on one layer it moves on the other layers too. Quote Link to comment

If you make the origin of the symbol the same as the origin on a layer, then you could edit the symbol and move the objects within the symbol and they would change for every instance of the symbol (so move on all the layers). It would feel a bit weird, but it would work. Kevin Quote Link to comment

bcd
Create a Layer with only your object. Create a Design Layer Viewport showing only that Layer Assign a useful class to control visibility of the DLVP Place, Duplicate, Move, Rotate and Lock the DLVP on any other DL Edited November 14, 2019 by bcd 1 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
bcd, Thanks. That works well. I'm going to try a symbol too. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
A symbol is a good solution too. Thanks everyone. Quote Link to comment
