AlanW
Hi, I am interested to know if anyone uses the Machine Components OIP and all its wonderful and detailed items?? I personally have not had a use for them, but then again Sculpture. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
? When/how does a Machine Components OIP appear? Not mentioned in Help (needs a key word) -B Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
I think Alan is speaking of the things that used to be know as the Machine Design version of VW. These have been brought forward into Designer. They show up in the MEP, Fastener and Machine Component Tool Sets and in the Machine Design submenu of the AEC menu in the Designer workspace. I use some of them occasionally. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Right, but the OIP shows info for specific objects. EG worm gear or certain springs. No aggregated bunch of components nor a specific tool. Hopefully Alan will jump in here to explain. Or maybe it's something in the AU localized version? -B Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Hi, Yea it was really a general enquiry and as I am an architect I use mainly most of the other stuff but the items in this palette are so specific and so carefully done, I wondered who actually uses then in their profession to document something. If anyone does I would be interested in seeing some of the work. I could understand where many of these could be used in engines etc, so just interested. I understand the Spotlight and Landmark versions but these seem an Tool Set without a home. Edited August 25, 2015 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
AlanW
How about breaking the boredom with a challenge to produce the best sculpture out of the Machine Parts in the Tool Set??? Bit of Fun (maybe) Well I started with the bottom bit of... (See attached) Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
OH, Fun, Alan! I like the browns and golds color palette, too. In the Vectorworks App folder look in the Goodies and Samples folders. These files with cams and springs and chains and such, some animated, have been in every version I have used. I think the animations were originally created by Ishmael, an employee from mcd days. Maybe he's still there. So you meant the Machine Components Tool Set (not OIP). Strange it's not identified as a help topic. I view my tool sets as icons only, so never knew the real name. I always think of it as Machine Parts. I'm nominating the search terms in wish list. -B Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Ah, Yes the Tool Set, Still can't remember what they are all really called, I just use them, so am a bit of a Noob with all that. Quote Link to comment

Kevin McAllister
Nice. How's the document speed with all those bits and pieces? Kevin Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Kevin, Surprisingly quick, in open GL with shadows being cast the rotation is immediate, no lag at all. But I do have a reasonably quick Computer. The file size is only 30k. Edited August 27, 2015 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
