assemblyarchitecture
One big change I noticed in VW2015 is that the default projection when you select the 3d rotation tool is a perspective. This works fine if you just create a single object in a new drawing, but when you have an extensive drawing with a lot of elements, switching to perspective causes the object to disappear out of the perspective viewing window. I am having to switch manually back to an orthogonal projection every time i want to go from a plan view to look at what I'm designing in 3d. Is there a way to reset the default projection to orthogonal or was this a top down design decision to make it always a perspective view? If so it is detrimental to the process of going back and forth quickly to see your work in 3d. hopefully I'm missing a setting or if not this is something which should be taken car of in future releases. vw2015 Arch,Renderworks... Administrator JuanP Posted September 19, 2014 Administrator Share Posted September 19, 2014 go to Tools>Options>VW Preferences>3D pane and change the projection from Normal Perspective to Orthogonal. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I have the same issue with that strange frame hiding the geometry in the view window. (existing file from 2014) I also switched back to orthogonal view but would prefer perspektive mode if it works like in 2014. Anyway, that new setting for 3D windows is great. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 19, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 19, 2014 That's the perspective crop, normally that should be turned off but it may be on by default in older files. File > Document Settings > Document Preferences > display > uncheck Cropped Perspective. Quote Link to comment

File > Document Settings > Document Preferences > display > uncheck Cropped Perspective. Great, thanks. But is this the feature that would otherwise allow me to view camera views cropped to the cameras viewing angle ? (Which I missed so far) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 19, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 19, 2014 I believe when you use "Display Camera View" from a RW camera it will still crop, but I will confirm. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, that's the setting I missed Nevertheless there is at least a frame that shows me the view borders now. But I have to switch it explicitly on for camera view. (that I can "zoom to all" to get a full screen view). So I vote for an additional switch in the Tool Mode Bar Most elegant would be a grayed out surrounding like in Cinema and an auto zoom of the crop frame to (nearly) full window. barkest
The behaviour has changed. Before when you used cropped it only cropped the camera view. Not it crops all 3D views. I believe cropped got turned off as the default in 2014 but when you turned it on it only affected the camera view. That worked great but now with everything cropped it doesn't really work (for us at least) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 19, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 19, 2014 Do you feel an additional new option for "Crop Camera Views Only" would resolve this? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, sounds logical. Why should you crop a screen view anyway. Edited September 19, 2014 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 19, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 19, 2014 Not a clue. I only have ever seen it used in conjunction with Cameras. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, if that could work again like in VW 2014 that would be great. But there seems to be a graphic problem. When I switched back from (cropped) Camera View back to basic Iso (perspective mode), my geometry does not show, the crop frame is there and empty. Edit : No, not empty, the geometry is just somewhere else. Edited September 19, 2014 by zoomer Quote Link to comment

zoomer
Ah, I see it's a new feature "Consolidate Projection and Perspective menus : The perspective commands have been incorporated into the Projection menu for a more streamlined workflow" As I did the Renderworks Tutorial again (now 2015), about the crop is said that it can be found in : View > Perspective > cropped Which is now gone in 2015. Yes, it should not effect standard viewports when in perspective mode but camera views only. But I think it would be useful to switch crop on/off from time to time. Therefor the setting in : File > document settings > 3D is really far away to reach. So I vote again for a place in a button above (where the "show rulers" etc. are, or/and as a checkbox in the Object Info Palette. Quote Link to comment
