BCD,

In case you didn't know, any polygon or polyline containing holes can also be edited like a group. This allows you to just delete the objects that are creating the holes. Its a bit hidden since double clicking on the object or right clicking and choosing edit activates the points. You enter the group by using the shortcut Command [ (right square bracket). Its the best hidden secret I've found.

Right. What Kevin says.

Some gritty details:

It's the Edit Polyline command in the Modify menu. This command is only present in the menu if a polyline is selected. (Shouldn't it always be there? Gray if not active???.

Shortcut is Cmd[

When the Edit Polyline command is invoked, the perimeter poly is locked. Perimeter vertices are not available for edits.

Any 2d objects surrounded by the perimeter poly act as clipping objects - they create holes. While the command is active, existing holes (clipping objets) can be reshaped, moved, deleted, etc, and new objects can be added. During the command, these clipping objects retain their fill, so may not look like holes. They are available during future Edit Polyline events.

During the Polyline Edit, objects which are created or edited to intersect the locked perimeter make edge notches in shape of intersecting areas. These clipping objects are not retained and therefore, not available during future edits - the new, notched edge shape is locked during future edits.

Note that a polygon clipped with a hole or edge notch is redefined as a polyline.
