CipesDesign
Hello all, I am working on a large and complex file, from someone else. All went well until suddenly all data (Walls, fixtures, pretty much everything except Lights) disappears in any 3d view. All the data is there and selectable in Top/Plan? Has anyone ever seen this before? Anyone have a fix? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 20, 2014 If you have Unified View enabled, in Unified View options, check "display screen objects" but uncheck everything else in that dialogue, then go back to a top/plan view and back to a 3D view, does it look any different? CipesDesign
Nope. Still mostly missing objects? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 20, 2014 Was the missing geometry referenced originally, or was it all in one file? In either case, I can take a look if you can send the file or a link to it to tech@vectorworks.net Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 20, 2014 It appears Clip Cube was enabled, so nothing would have appeared differently in Top/Plan, but in 3D the file was only displaying the area inside the clip cube. bc
Looks like a big "gotcha", huh Peter? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes. Huge. Thanks for the help Jim. I guess I'll be boning up on Clip Cube later. Like, which hot key I was accidentally hitting - maybe? Thanks again! Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I've actually had a few instances where the clip cube turned on by itself while I was editing inside groups and symbols. It was sort of random so I couldn't bug submit it.... Kevin Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Hi Kevin, yes, that's exactly what I was up to, but I couldn't pin it down to anything more specific. However, I now have the "show clip cube" icon up in the bar so at least if it happens again I can see it and turn it off. Thanks, Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
i use the clip cube a lot in complex files. Its very good for filtering the view so you can concentrate on a specific area. Like peter, i keep the clip cube preference in the Tool bar Quick Preferences area. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 21, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 21, 2014 Just posting so the community can see this as well: It turned out one of the saved views included the Clip Cube, so even just entering that saved view will enable the cube. After that point, normal view changes will NOT disable the Clip Cube, a user would have to go manually to another saved view that didn't include it, or disable the cube intentionally, in order to get a regular view back. I'm going to put in a wish for a quick alert (that can be dismissed forever if the user desires) when users switch to a saved view that has a Clip Cube on it. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Hi Jim, Much appreciated! Seems like no matter how long I use VW's (More than two decades!) there's always something that can appear (or disappear!) to bite me in the? rear... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 21, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 21, 2014 I still get nipped by things like Unified View and Layer Stacking on occasion, no shame in it. Hopefully some good will come of the request and this will save future users a headache. Quote Link to comment
