AndrewJMolloy
I have an extremely large file of a plan of a considerable urban area. I want to combine all the lines of the buildings to create a figure ground map (it appears to be a mix of lines and polylines). I have tried doing it the long way using the paint bucket in the 2d polygon tool but this doesn't work, the fill just doesn't appear. Is there anyway to combine all these lines automatically? VincentCuclair
Haven't tried these but perhaps they can help you: http://www.vectorbits.org/VectorBits_2013/vectorbits/Entradas/2008/1/6_ChainMaker.html http://www.vectorbits.org/VectorBits_2013/vectorbits/Entradas/2012/11/1_Optimize_Drawing.html Quote Link to comment
GWS
Have you tried converting everything to lines and then composing them. Look under the modify menu. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Andrew, often when an autocad file (.dwg) is imported into VW's, I find that on close inspection many of the (supposed) intersection points (e.g.: where two lines, or a line and a poly meet) are not really exact. This is usually due to sloppy drafting on the front end. The problem is that for VW's to either fill or compose such objects the intersections MUST be perfect. In order to clean up these intersections I have used the Join command (select two objects and hit command+J). Now the objects actually join/intersect and VW's knows when to do with them. Cleaning up large, complex files is a tedious and time consuming process. You can waste a whole day and not get very far! I usually end up either cleaning up or tracing over only those objects/portions of the plan that I need... Good luck! Quote Link to comment
bcd
HI Andrew, Welcome to the forum. Here's what I'd try. Select a line (or Select All) Edit>Select Connected Objects Modify>Compose (works with both lines & polylines) then - you can use the Connect/Combine tool join the resulting polygons. Note: if some of the objects are actually 3d Polygons you will have to first convert to Polygons. Edited November 21, 2012 by bcd Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Mark Mullany Posted November 21, 2012 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 21, 2012 I'd agree with most of the above but just in case we've overlooked the obvious just check that your fill is turned on in the Attributes palette - it tends to switch off after importing DWG files as they dont have fill in the same way Quote Link to comment
