Symbols no longer break walls

I have a VW 2009 problem. For some reason my walls are not longer broken by symbols conversely I cannot drag a door or window PIO out of a wall. With the door & window PIO, when it is created outside a wall it will not cut a wall if dragged into a wall.

Is there a setting I've inadvertently altered, or is my programme corrupted?

You have probably turned off the Wall Insertion mode for the 2D Selection tool. Easily done as that mode can be toggled on and off with the I key.

So now I've done something else, the "USE EDIT VIEW TO UPDATE..." while not selected, seems to stuck on. So editing a symbol is now cluttered with the rest of my drawing in grey.

Any thoughts?

Do you have "Show other objects while in editing modes"

and "Grey other objects"

checked in preferences?
