Product update check failed "...connection to the server cannot be established..."

I've been getting this error quite a bit lately:

I have a very fast connection and no issues with any other applications connecting.

 

Thoughts?

After a restart it found the update, but then I got this:

 

 

I restarted again and got the first error.

 

I've restated the computer, the router, and Vectorworks multiple times - each failing updates.

 

 

 

...are there alternative ways to get updates?

@hollister design Studio the update failing could be caused by a network issue or more likely a permissions issue. Can you submit a support request directly to technical support so we can get more detailed logs and get you up and running with Update 4 ASAP? Thanks

Unfortunately this is the fault of not-so-great interface design; It's not obvious that it is waiting for the user to do something.

 

You have to click on the folder icon to select your download destination. Then the Download button will become available. 

 

[Note to Vw: I think there should be a prompt above the ‘Download Location’ box that says something about the need to select a download folder location. Also see that that on my current Vw 2024 Updater, the folder icon is not even inside the bounding box.]

I did see that, unfortunately I still cant download the update... it just sticks without doing anything.

 

@Tully I did get an email back form tech but i haven't had a chance to read it yet.

I managed to get my copy updated by brute-forcing the update. I spent about 10 minutes checking the update over and over again until it showed there was an update and then doing the same thing with the updater. It was beyond frustrating.

@Tully i got to the updater, but can't seem to get beyond around 2%

this morning the updater said it needed to update.

This seemed like a good sign!

 

...now I'm on an endless "please close Vectorworks first" loop.

 

And yes, I did close Vectorworks, and there is no instance showing in the task manager.
