jmhanby
Is there a way to have only a partial guard rail on the stairs? I have a stair where the top half of the stair is next to a wall and the lower half is not. How do I make the guard railing stop at the wall but have the hand rail go the full length of the stairs? zoomer
I think this is not possible. But as VW Stair handrails often does not meet users expectations anyway, many switch Stair handrail off and use the separate Railing Tool to add these separately. 2 Quote Link to comment
E|FA
Or model in 3D with the following shortcut: Build the Stair with the guardrail showing -> Duplicate the Stair -> Ungroup the duplicate -> delete/modify the parts of the resulting group you don't need ->turn the guardrail off on the original Stair. 3 Quote Link to comment
TomKen
Are you using VW2024, if so this is easily done using the new railing tool in gravity mode. Something like this. 3 Quote Link to comment

I tried this but couldn't get the railing to follow the angle of the stairs. Quote Link to comment

I will definitely try this. Thank you. Quote Link to comment

gfyfe
@E|FA Am following your shortcut for this as I have the same issue, however when I ungroup it loses all 3D geometry and is just a 2D object. How do you get the separate handrail components that you are trying to model back into 3D? Thank you! Quote Link to comment
E|FA
I just did a test. If you ungroup in a 2D top view, it ungroups as 2D objects. If you ungroup in a 3D view it ungroups as 3D objects. I never knew this is how it worked. Quote Link to comment

But at one point someone from Vectorworks (Landmark ?) mentioned you must be in Top Plan View to export a 3D. Since then I am a bit confused .... Quote Link to comment
