multiple instances of VW with one click on a file.

This never happened before 2024 for me.

 

Now it seems more often than not when I click on a file to open it in explorer, VW tries to open it multiple times.

 

I am unable to close the extra instances, as they get stuck on the loading page like the attached screen grab.

Or they get stuck on an error message saying that my preferences can't not be save, or a couple of other warnings...

 

there is no way to shut them down.

clicking on the closing "X" does nothing, I can't get to the menus as the instances are not fully open yet, the only way to close VW is with an "end task" in the resource manager.

In the above screen grab, two instances are frozen, and one I had been working on for about an hour before I realized the other instances were open.

 

 

 

Not really an issue, just a frustration as I have no idea why this is happening and like I stated above, it's new with 2024.

I am not a Windows users, but I wonder if your mouse is actually sending multiple clicks that is causing the issue.  I recommend checking your mouse settings and potentially turning on or extending "debounce" if that is an option.

@Pat Stanford I use a wacom, so it very well could be.

 

It's just odd that this didn't happen before I updated to 2024 and it does happen for any other file types.

Can you try a different mouse/input device and see if the problem exists with that also?  If a different device solves the problem then it is probably the device and you need to check the settings and/or the hardware.

On windows this also happens if you accidentally click double or more often on the vwx icon in the task bar...

You can have so many instances running .-)

I will not imagine what will happen to the prefs in the user folder...
